Exceptional
This work has reached the exceptional level

This is SO beautifully written. Not just in your style of poetry writing, but you are telling a story that is very vivid and real. It is like you were her. I read the below bio after too and think even more how special this is. I would use this in a school with a poetry lesson!

Grace must have been a wonderful person. You did the right thing by commemorating her in your poem. I hope her family kept the poem for the future generations.

Thanks, Joanna. Grace was full of life right up until the day she passed away.

S13, L4 -- I have a suggestion -- here I would do one of two things:

a) leave off the word "with" and add a comma to the previous line
or
b) leave out the word "my"

Neither word is necessary and causes a tiny trip of the tongue.

Likewise S16, L2. Here's my suggestion -- leave out the word "the" and add an apostrophe to "winter" = winter's chill.

The rest of the poem is too fabulous to not have the flow silken throughout.

Just my opinion, and I hope it doesn't offend. This really is very close to a six-worthy poem, but I haven't any left anyway. Best of luck in the contest!

I'm always interested in suggestions. In stanza 213, I'm going to change "family" to "fam'ly". That's the way we say that word in downeast Maine. In stanza 16, I am going to leave things the way they are. The poem is written in iambic heptameter. I break the seven feet down into two lines. Keeping that in mind, if you reread that stanza, you'll see what I mean. Thanks for the input.

I am all out of sixes! Yet if I had one left I would surely give one to you. You have written about a soft-spoken nurse who sang to the wounded during world war two and gave sweet comfort to them while they were on their last legs. This says so much about how you show your gratitude for nurses everywhere you bestow their kindness on soldiers who need the comfort of a warm feminine body to see them through to the end.
