Oh my word! What a terrifying ordeal. I hate snakes. When I was in Charleston South Carolina there were snakes all over the place. I always had to watch where I was watching. You told this story very convincingly. Poor Tom, he's going to come back with a rope, but his dad won't be in a position to grab it. Well done.
Have a blessed evening.

As sad as the ending, the dad accomplished his stated goal, to save his son no matter what. Fortunately I have never been put into this situation yet, but like the dad in this story I would like to think that I would place either one of my children or grand children's life ahead of mine. Especially since I am now 78 years old. This is a sad yet exciting to read, well written story of adventure.

Thank you for reading and commenting. Not all stories have happy endings.

True. The ultimate object of the story teller is to tell all tales whether happy or sad

The ending was horrific. This story had my attention from beginning to end. I could not imagine being in that situation. The story was well written, and reads well. I could feel what the father was going through. Your words painted a vivid description. The snake "waiting for an excuse to attack" stood out to me. Good job.

Thank you. I hate snakes and it wasn't difficult to make them the monsters in the story. Not all stories have a happy ending.

This was harrowing! You managed to keep the reader's interest from the first sentence to the very last. You did a great job! Keep up the good work.

Thank you for reading and commenting. Snakes are a phobia of mine so I don't know why I wrote about them.
