I thought I recognized the picture. Thanks Auntie for writing about Grandpa. I heard this from a lot of the family. Keep up the good work. Writing from the heart is the only way to write if you ask me. :)

Thanks, Angie. I'm going to write more about my dad and mom one of these days soon. I always wished I could have had him longer. He was a hard man to really know and as I got older there were so many questions I wanted to ask him.

Wonderful tribute to a man who said little, but when he spoke, he spoke volumes.
My father was like that, but when he spoke it mattered.
Best of luck in the contest

Thanks. My dad was the best. People often consider me to be a quiet person too. I always tell them I learn more by listening. LOL

I think this is quite a good tribute to a father. He had his peculiarities, but he seemed to be a kind, hard working man. Hidings were common in those days, so he was not unusual. Having a strong father presence in the home is always a bonus that few kids have these days.

Thanks. I agree, it would be great if more parents were at home with their kids.

A very nice tribute. I think "hinny" might be misspelled, but I can't be sure. I can tell he was a good man. I'm glad you got the time with him that you did. Good job.

Thanks. I wasn't sure about that hinny word either. You have any ideas as to how it is spelled?

honestly...no.. What I do in situations like this is Google it. To get the result you want, put it in a phrase that it would be likely to be found in. That way, Google corrects the spelling.

Okay, thanks for the tip

An excellent entry in this Ode quick thinking contest. You've done your dad proud, I'm so glad your dad was an example to you, and was known for his integrity and forthrightness, what a great example for you and your siblings. Well written with nicely detailed scribing, smoothly and articulately written, well done, good luck, blessings, Roy

Thanks. It is easy for me to write about my dad. We were very close. Dad also had a great sense of humor and often played little practical jokes on us kids.

Well done, a good dad is a great example

This prose ode to your father is one that I can understand well. My father was also introspective and only spoke when something needed to be said. No small talk or wise cracks. He was well-known and well-liked and left this world that way. You have given your dad I very nice send up here.

Thanks. I always thought my dad's silence was unusual but several reviewers have said they had a father or grandfather who was like my dad. I find this interesting

miss-behaved (misbehaved)
Dad is used as a name and should be capitalized throughout the piece
He may have been a quiet man but the world (comma after man)
If we were arguing or fighting we quit instantly. (comma after fighting)
These are great memories and how wonderful you learned to love the written word.
Best wishes in the contest, my friend. With the spags fixed, this will be a nice entry~Debbie

This reminds me of my own dad who was also very quiet.
I enjoyed your story and it made me reflect on time
spent with my dad. Some of my favorite time was spent on
Saturday afternoons watching New York Yankee baseball
games. Good luck in the contest.

What a lovely tribute. He reminds me of my grandfather, so I instantly warmed to him. Sometimes actions can speak louder than words, which is a strange thing to say when I spend my life surrounded by language. A great contest entry, a winner in my eyes. Good luck .

Thanks. As I said, my dad was extremely quiet. I tend to be like him somewhat. I find myself listening more than talking. I always tell people I learn more that way.LOL
