I never knew that! I like the comparison between trees ( land) and whales (sea). Also alliteration here. The whale would have to be dead before I would count them. L0L.

You and me both. I am glad they shed the teeth like an oak sheds its leaves. Thanks for your comments Shari, :-) Carolyn

This reads to me like three separate lines - I don't see where two lines are grammatically interconnected
a fascinating bit of information about the whale that I never knew

Thanks Brooke, you are probably right, it is more of a comparison between whales and trees, they both shed, leaves and teeth, and count age by rings. It was fun to write. I found info I hadn't known as well.

I don't understand why they keep changing the forms. I am used to writing a 5/7/5 Haiku. Which is short/long/short. I guess yours fits their criteria. so it is okay. The Message is something I did not know! Thanks for sharing. Miss Sally

I never realised whales lost their teeth annually ('deciduous'), but I guess it saves them going to the dentist. :-)
Fun and thought-provoking entry.
Good luck and best wishes, Ray.

Thanks Ray, for the great comments. (Deciduous: shedding at a specific time and or stage of growth). So glad you enjoyed the read. :-) Carolyn

Interesting aspect of whales portrayed here and furthermore an intriguing angle paralleled with trees and both displaying 'deciduous' qualities

This was a cool haiku. I don't know much about whales so I took your word for it that their teeth have rings.
I liked the comparison between trees and whales. I had to look up "deciduous" for a clearer idea of how the word related to these two, very different living organisms. According to my dictionary one of the definitions is: "falling off or shed at a specific season or stage of growth." I see the connection now.
A well done and thought provoking haiku.

Thanks Debbie, are you entering, you would probably win. It is not a Tanka, but I'm sure you would write it to perfection anyway. Love, Carolyn

I haven't been inspired yet. I really prefer tanka and have had several published this tear and more to be published this fall. I have one to post tonight, too. I don't see many of on FS anymore. Hugs, Debbie

People keep telling me I should send things 'in'. If you don't mind sharing, where do you get your work published? I don't know where 'in' is. LOL love, Carolyn
