Oh, very good job on this one! Kept the creep in creepy, for sure! I grew up in a very old town in New Jersey and we had several houses reputed to be haunted, one called the Hermitage. Very scary stuff.

Yes, scary. There were no 'manifestations,' but some very strange things happened during the service. Things broke, fell down or moved. The temperature went down - altough that might have been psychsomatic, there was apparently no actual change in temperature. Normally an exorcist doesn't take company with him, as there is a risk to the 'assistant' but on this occassion he needed someone to carry some of the 'equipment' and hold the book. The preparation included making a full confession beforehand, followed by my performing a rite of penance, and then absolution. Plus I was warned to focus my thoughts on the things I was carry and 'pray, pray, pray. Don't think of anything, don't react to anything, focus on praying.'
As I said, scary. Ghost busters it was not, but the 'rite' involved candles, readings from the Bible, sprinkling with holy water - lots of it - and the invocation of Christ's help in overcoming the evil present. It was really quite simple, very quietly delivered, with no big movie style drama, just a 'spiritual' cleansing of each room and everything in it.

Hi, Patrick. Thanks so much for sharing this event with me. It is as you say, very essential that the thoughts not wander during the ritual. Apparently, the most exorcisms peformed by the Catholic church, according to the writing of a priest who was recently trained in Rome, take place in Italy. The thinking is that it is because of curses and satanic worship (which the freemasons have been accused of). I do know that Padre Pio had quite a few go-arounds with demons and they were quite violent in nature. I think that the energy that we call demonic is an energy that consists of many elements and is fed by belief. Anyway, I'm going on here. Thanks again, Patrick.

If you have access to an UK "Book of Common Prayer" (1662 version) try looking up the Service of Comminations - otherwise known as 'Laying a curse' or the Invocation of God's Wrath upon unrepentant sinners.
