Jim,

I totally get it. I have written a couple of poems on the subject myself. Selfishly, I went to get my favorite to share, but couldn't find it - so you are saved. You're welcome.

The one thing you forgot to mention is the bills, bills, bills. *smile* Thanks so much!

That isn't a problem for me; I've got great insurance! Just wish I didn't have to take so many in the first place.

Brilliant, Jim! I love it and have one 6* left which has to be yours! I always remember your fine command of verse and it's an absolute delight to read and listen to this Poe-style poem on a subject to which so many of us can relate. Unlike Poe, you do the verse form justice by not entering into a never-ending ramble! This is of perfect length, reads beautifully and sounds even better! The complete package for me! Debbie

Thanks so much, Debbie. You're right about Poe's poem. It turned very gloomy by the end, but I guess that's what we've come to expect from Poe.

I can remember reading that as a youth and being very amused by that 7-long repetition of the bells. I've come of the age where the pills made a natural spoof of the bells.

I can remember also wondering if the side effects of all the pills my mother took caused half of her problems, and maybe she should go cold turkey and not take any and see how she feels. But now that I too take so many, I'm kind of afraid to stop any of them!

I think so many of our age will relate to this anguish about pills. I tend to think the medics know a little about the pills but nothing much about how they interact together. And the more we take the more we have to counter their effects with something else. Hence the massive wealth of the pharmaceuticals. And I know this will be very controversial but I can't help but think there would be more advances with cancer if they weren't making so much money from chemo and all the follow-up treatment. Sorry, I digress!! PS What a lovely voice you have reading poetry.

Thank you for your very nice compliment, Debbie.

I believe you may be right with your cynicism about the pharmaceutical industry and cancer treatments. In fact, for my next novel, I've been considering a story about the quest to find a super, non-addictive painkiller and the difficulties that ensue.
