"Send her back. She cries much." That was my son's suggestion about his little sister. I doubt if he remembers, nearly 40 years later. The photo sets this story up beautifully. I'm glad to hear you did eventually tolerate Danny even if he does still annoy!

Thank you. I was four when Danny was born, and I remember exactly how I felt. I don't like to use the word hate, but it probably best describes my feelings at the time.

I can't even imagine growing up with so many siblings; you must have LOTS of stories to tell!
What a comical piece this is - a delight to read. He's a "living doll" while you are a "discarded toy" - great line. "Can we send him back?" had me laughing. "Maybe you could give him to Aunt Grace." Well, at least you were trying to solve the problem in a creative way:-)
I'm curious as to what age you were when you finally stopped having devilish thoughts about Danny. At least you finally fell in love with him and never ended up throwing him in the lake to fend for himself.
This was well written, and you kept it short when you could have gone on and on about all the times life was unfair to you. A great story for this contest. Good luck in it.

Thank you for the six stars. I think I was around ten years old when I admitted Danny wasn't so bad after all. I was never as close to Danny as I was to Beverly, but I learned to play nice with him. LOl. Our family was large but we knew we were loved.

A wonderful entry for the Childhood Photo contest. Ten kids?! God bless your parents. I love this story and you're right, that picture is the best lol. Those younger siblings come in with all their new baby cuteness and ruin everything! But thank God they stuck around and we still have them for awhile longer. A charming story. Thanks for sharing and good luck.

Thank you. It's twelve kids. I was number ten, Danny was eleven, and Beverly was twelve. It was a large family, but we never lacked love.

I completely understand that. I was the eldest, so I was quite happy to have my brother arrive three years later, then seven years after that, my sister was born. My brother hated her from day one. They get on fine now. But when the second brother arrived, my sister hated him on sight! The fact he was the one who lived a life of pain wasn't understoon at that time, and she continued to be jealous of him. I don't know why children are jealous of their siblings, perhaps it's because they are used to being the pampered one until the next arrives and spoils it for them. I'm glad you love your brother now. This is a lovely contest entry, and I wish you good luck! :) Sandra xxx

Thank you. I think it was because I was the baby and didn't like Danny taking my place?sibling rivalry.

This is an excellent true life story as told by the one who experienced it. It cleverly demonstrates the complexity of family dynamics. It is well written, funny and loving; and reminds us of a time when little ones really paid attention to parents.
Hats off to the writer.

Thank you. Yeah, Danny and I are good friends now. We like to tease one another about the past, and I still threaten to return him to wherever he came from. Lol.

Thank you, and thanks for the six stars. Danny and I are close now, but I still threaten to send him back to wherever he came from. Mom had most of us kids at home, so I just woke up one day and Danny was there. Surprise.

What a lot of memories that photo brought. You did an excellent job of expressing how the baby of the family can feel when a younger sibling arrives. I loved your honesty in expressing totally understandable feelings.

Thank you. Yeah, I hated it when Danny took my place as the baby of the family.
