Ah! This is such a sad story. Please forgive me for awarding only 4 stars, but I think you can improve the clarity and flow of your writing with additional punctuation. Also, I felt some repeated phrases were unnecessary, for example, "...that particular medication".
I hope you find this constructive. - Terry

Thank you for reviewing. This is the 27th chapter of what will be a book, so other readers have clarity because they have read all the previous. I punctuate as we do in Australia, and it is correct. I used "that particular medication" on purpose, to distinguish it from others that he?d been given.

Thank you for your reply. I tell it as I see it. I don't think the punctuation is incorrect, just lacked clarity for me.
Comment from Wayne Fowler
Well written. Great work.
I remember growing up that the general sentiment was that a hospital was where people went to die. They either put off going out of fear (and by then they were too far along toward death), or caught something while admitted.
Best wishes.

Thank Wayne. Yes, very true. And it is still only too easy to catch something else during a hospital stay. Normally, here, one is discharged as soon as possible, which used to be thought of as cost cutting but now is understood to be a better and safer system. Sometimes community nurses are organised to do home visits.

In patients like Jonothan there is always a high risk of catching infections and I am glad he pulled through this latest bout of illness. Eight pints of fluid is a lot! Not being able to move about and clear the fluid in our lungs can cause such major problems.
Jonothan should have been more closely monitored when he came out of hospital, but I expect it is all about staff shortages and lack of funds that he was only checked twice a week.
It is a pity he missed the Christmas celebrations because of Covid, there is always something to deal with in life. Another fine update about Jonothan's journey through life and the challenges he faces. I liked the comment that Jonothan was also a teacher. Another fine post Wendy. Love Dolly x x x

You are right. It was a clear case of cost cutting that the nurse is now only there two days a week. The only advantage is that if the group home feel he is unwell they will try to get him immediately into his local doctor, and/or call for an ambulance. He is now closer to a major hospital, rather than a small country hospital. Thank you for your lovely review, as always.

You instinctively knew not to give up...
Jonathan deserved every opportunity to live, and through prayer and some very courageous medical intervention Jonathan prevailed!
Eureka indeed!
Thank God you had the legal power to insist that medication be withheld...
Fierce advocacy is essential!
I feared the worst.
What a triumphant chapter!
And now Covid...

Thanks so much, Karenina. Yes, it was wonderful when they finally discovered what the bacterium was, and they had a viable solution. It did confirm that we had made the right decisions along the way. So thankful. A happy chapter.

The wonderful thing about what is to be your published book (I'm sure!)--is every chapter is filled with love and caring.
