A six for putting yourself out there, mystery writer. I, too, have struggled with my faith, even now in things I do not understand and in a relationship with a son that's estranged and eyesight that's moving to quickly to darkness. As you said, sometimes faith in God is all we have. He rides the storm with us and leads us to the calm even in the midst of terrors.
It's funny you should mention earth angles. I have had two people tell me this morning I was an earth angel. Sometimes I don't feel like it, so it must be the Holy Spirit inside me. God uses others to help us and bring is along in our faith. I'm glad you have earth angels. I'm most thankful for mime.
Sending you my best today as always, and my very best wishes for the upcoming vote.

Hi there Sally. What a lovely review and such endearing comments that I would expect from you since we are both so very much alike in so many ways. I appreciate all of your caring and am honored by your six stars. Thank you for your support and as always I pray for your health and eyes too, as I know they also lead a stress for your areas of faith. Yet I know how strong you are, and are so instrumental at helping me stay strong at the same time. God bless dear friend and you are always in my prayers, as I am so thankful to God ever since He brought together.

This is a very compelling story of how your faith evolved over time. What makes it compelling is the honesty with which you write. That honesty connects with readers, who then start thinking about their own experiences. That connection is what makes a good writer. Exceptional. Terry.

This essay on your faith marks a powerful turning point in your life where the fear part of a religious connection is replaced with the love which carries us forward.

Yes, you're absolutely correct, we are saved by faith through grace, Eph,2:8-9, not by keeping the law, (which is impossible), He died for our sin and rose again for our justification. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise, I've been the guilt tripping, and they are deceiving themselves, Find a church where these things are preached, God will help, believe He wants to help. Read these scriptures, Matthew 11:28-29, Jeremiah 29:11, Ephesians 2:8-9. Beautifully written, Blessings Roy

Hi there,
it's difficult when you grow up in a household or society where faith is used as a whipping post. Indoctrination can go either way, you stay steadfast or you rebel, but it does the spirituality no favours either way.
It has always struck me as odd how much the teachings have loosened and the attitudes in church have changed. I mean 9if the bible truly is the word of god and these folks up there every week have a direct connection to a grand deity then how come things aren't the same. The word of God shouldn't change for the times, that's just a whittling away of the message... Of course, folk just put this down to a misinterpretation, which is a very handy excuse, or Satan did it - even handier.
This is a well-written piece and I'm glad you have found something which works for you.
All the best

I appreciate your review and comments very much, GMG. I guess I am not sure if the things they taught us as children were so wrong, or the way we interpreted it, or if the change was just them realizing that they lost so many by the stigma of shame it gave to some. The actual teaching of the ministry never changed, as the doctrine and the belief that Jesus died for our sins and what was taught directly from the Bible wasn't changed. But I have felt that throughout the years, that the old country felt by holding on tight to their members would keep them from going astray. If that was it, it backfired terribly. These are just my thoughts and I do agree with you on so much of what you said as well. I just know that I have a peace within since my faith has been restored. Thank you again, so very much for your "Food for thought" comments.

This is an honest and revealing post. It is terrible that you had to experience such a brain washing process growing up and did not think of yourself as a good person but a sinner. Your parents were misguided. I am glad that you have now found some peace and have an appreciation for life. A poignant post for the contest, love Dolly x
