I think we see our milestones in the Christmases we experience and there is a sense of loss when there are absentees and empty chairs around the table. Family is everything and managed to evoke a sense of pride in the celebration here, I wish you a very Merry Christmas, love Dolly x

You did a great job interpreting the image, JLR. I enjoyed
reading your poem. Your lines read smoothly and created
great imagery. I could see everything as I read. I agreed with
you about how things back then were so much better, easier.
With the scary world we now live in, it seems Christmas has been/
will be just another day. Hopefully, people will remember the
true reason for the season. Your words were well chosen and
meaningful.
Thanks for participating, Jan

You summarized the representation as well as it can be done.
Still, there likely were drugs, and homelessness, unemployment, etc. happening but there were no fake news outlets creating news.

Spot on Tom!
Comment from lancellot
It is a beautiful scene. I suppose I can understand the sense of loss, if person remembers this as a child or assumed this was how things were. Perhaps the top coating of the world, without looking underneath.
A well told free verse.

Lancelot, thanks and the best to you this holiday season.

You have written a beautiful poem for the club entry. It is a great picture, and the poem matches it wonderfully. I do like your message, but I am pretty dang old, and I have done a lot of genealogy research on the family. The times were different, but there were still a lot of secrets, and some were not so good. Still, I do love what you did with the poem and the prompt. Terry.

That is a far cry from todays Christmases, today it's hard work to find that festive joy. I wish we could go back and share a Christmas like that once more. As a child, more than 70 years ago, I remember running out in the snow, knocking on doors and walking straight it to play with my friends. It was a lot safer in those days. We sang carols in the streets, we did most of what you have included in your lovely poem. I thoroughly enjoyed your take on this picture, well done. :) Sandra

Comment from Sarah Das Gupta
You certainly conjure up scenes of past Christmases. The lllustration is very well matched to the poem. It is perhaps always the case that the past seems better than the present!

Sarah, thanks for your comments.

How true! Your poem resonates with me and most probably with many people too. It reminds me of the song: where have all the flowers gone...
Thanks for sharing.
