I think we can all relate to your poem. We've all had good friends over the years we sort of lose contact with although we think of them often and suddenly we get word that one of those people has died and we want see them again on this earth. It reminds us as how we are mortals as well. Many of my friends have passed on that were a lot younger than I am now so the old reaper might hit any time.

Hi,
I enjoyed your western style poem as I'm also a fan of rhyming poetry and enjoy the western genre.
A sad tale told with the honesty and respect you'd expect from a friend.
I love the image. Is it one you have drawn yourself?
Blessings

I love stories in a poem and this one is excellent. It flows so well and the rhyme is superb. I'm not too keen on the font though. Thanks for sharing. Best wishes. Jen.

Great sketch of Willie, guess you penned it? Jake would be riding the ranges in heaven now, when you hang up your spurs you will be together again, riding the ranges.
Well written; I love horses, we don't call them cowboys. We have stations up to a million acres and most of the boys now use motorised vehicles to round up stock.

I am sorry for your loss (as per your notes ). Your poem is a wonderful tribute to your friend, in my opinion.
I have just one small suggestion, although you might have written it that way for effect. "He never complained about the work he (done)." The correct grammar would be "...the work he did."
That, of course, throws off your end rhyme, so it's solved by simply adding an apostrophe d to "he" = "...the work he'd done" makes it grammatically correct.
Wonderful western flavour to this verse!

A cowboy who plays the French harp? How unusual is that Willie? An ode to a friend who has passed away and the chill of death moving ever so close, I know the feeling and it is hard to hear of friends passing away with a realisation that we are mere mortals. I loved your rhymes and sentiment, a clever and imaginative write, love Dolly x

This is a nice tribute to your cowboy friend Jake.
It is alway a sad thing to hear one of your old
friends have passed on. Even more so when he was only a few years older than you. Well done Willie. Blessings. Nancy:)

Dealing with your own mortality is always a sobering subject. It is never easy for me to reflect on the death of someone I know or know of like an entertainer or famous athlete. It does not matter if they are younger or older. I do believe that if the person was someone you knew, it is much more affecting.

This was very well written, and a great poem to read. I enjoyed the way that it told a story, and talked about your friend. The rhyming and flow of words came together perfectly, and made this very enjoyable to read. The illustration added a very nice touch to the poem that you wrote. Thank you for sharing your poem.

I'm sorry you lost your friend. This wonderful poem is a great tribute to him, I'll bet he loved it. He died far too young, you never know if you have 4 years or 40 left. Maybe its best we don't know. Thank you for sharing.
