This is a very good story you have told about how life was changing for both of you. It was a very hard knock to know you were going to lose him and another to find yourself unable to help him as you wished because of your pain. You are right that sciatic nerve pain is almost unbearable. A chiropractor got me back on my feet when it happened, but it took a month.

Thank you. You're lucky you got your pain under control so easily. I did go to a chiropractor, but he refused to do anything as he thought it might make it worse. Hugs

That Chiropractor had me scared to death before the pain when away as he didn't seem to understand I have a lot of deformed bones. I was more afraid of surgery, however.

Wow. I can't imagine what you went through. You are indeed very strong indeed as you overcame your own pain because of the love of your husband who was in even more pain. Thank you for sharing about your courage and determination. I hope you had someone come in and help you after your surgery! Best wishes in the contest!

Thank you. Yes, my sister stayed with me for a few days after the surgery. It was truly tough lifting my husband and helping him to the bathroom. The pain was excruciating. Hugs

I'm so glad you loved your husband enough to take care of him, I'm sorry that you likewise suffered pain. Backs are funny things, they hurt very much for seemingly little reason, but of course there is always one. Beautifully written dear friend, blessings Roy

Thank you. I would have taken care of my husband if I had to crawl. I promised no nursing home and intended to keep my word. Hugs.

That?s my girl,

You really did experience the school of hard knocks, and I totally understand your sciatic nerve pain. I take medication for it. The Neurosurgeon said my condition is too extensive and complicated for surgery.
However, I'm so sorry you lost your husband but know he's in a better place. Your deep love for him despite your own pain brought a tear to my eyes. Your story, though sad, is told clearly with a meaningful message. Best wishes in the contest.

Thank you. The surgery was a godsend. I have almost no pain now and hope it stays that way. I wish I could have had the surgery sooner so I could have enjoyed my last year with my husband more. It seems to take doctors forever to do something no matter how much pain one is suffering. Hugs.

This is a very well-written story for this contest. I wish you the best, as it is a strong entry. I am glad your back pain has been managed. I hope the sadness of losing your husband is offset by the love you shared. Terry.

Thank you. My husband had been suffering for over two years so it was almost a relief when he died and ended his pain. Yes, I still miss him but wouldn't have wanted him to stay as he was. Hugs

You did a great job with your contest entry, Prettybluebirds.
I understand completely about being a caregiver and hearing
others say 'you should . . . ' I commend you for the excellent
care you gave your husband. You expressed well, too, what that
year taught you.
Thanks for sharing and best wishes in the contest, Jan

Thank you. I was a stepmother to his kids and had to fight them to keep my husband out of a nursing home. I wasn't pleasant. Hugs.

I know how painful that it, and hope one day they'll do something to ease mine. I can only say how much I admire your strength and determination to look after your husband at home and let him die peacefully at home. Your unwavering love helped you, I'm sure of it. This is a strong contender for the School of Hard Knocks contest, and I wish you the best of luck. :)) Sandra xx

Thank you. I must be one of the lucky ones because I hear from so many, like you, who suffer with sciatic nerve pain with no releif. The surgerry did wonders. I still have some very mild pain in my leg, but it is nothing and I hardly notice it. Hugs

Good story. Nicely written. Good work.
What a silly question, "Do you want me to fix your back?"
I wonder what made you choose that particular picture? Just a picture of a fighter?
Best wishes.

Thank you. That's the doctors exact words. After all he put me through with no releif, then to say something like that. Of course, I wanted him to fix my back. Why did he think I was there? I didn't choose the picture, it was the contest picture. I tried to change it to no avail. Hugs.

What a beautiful piece of writing. Your pain, physical and emotional, both come through as does your incredible caring nature. I am giving 6 stars because it genuinely brought a tear to my eye.
I have had similar back trouble to you and I can empathise. I could not describe the pain to anyone. It goes beyond that, doesn't it?
Have a great day,

Thank you. Yes, the pain is indescriable unless one has experienced it theirselves. My doctor said that a person can stand normal pain but not nerve pain. Thank you for the six stars, I appreciate them. Hugs

I have spent time in a nursing home and have known others who have experienced the same harsh reality. You are indeed a saint for standing your ground and not letting peer pressure force you to send him away, I know Des appreciates it. It's a hideous experience.
Thanks for using such a visible, clean, readable font. It makes it so much easier for reviewing and for simple pleasurable reading.
Para 5, 3rd sentence: (Narco) should be (Norco)
What a lovely, heart-warming tribute. We all know there are saints amongst us. I consider you one of those saints and my heart goes out to you for your indescribable loss. I am certain Des is comfortable now and is taking all the rides he wants to take, thanks to a warm, faithful, loving wife. Your devotion has earned you a shining six-star rating for this heart-felt testimony. Thank you so much for sharing.

Thank you and thanks for the six stars. I should have know I spelled Narco wrong because I took enough of it. I can see why folks become addicted to it, Narco can give one a pretty good high. There was no way I would allow anyone to put my husband in a home. I promised and kept my word. Hugs.
