This was an interesting post. I have often wondered about start up franchises. It is not cheap to buy one. But, apparently it worked for him. This was a good post. I liked the ending!

Sarah, thank you for reading, this worked pretty well for Jim. Terry.

Pour Jimmy, he wants to impress Carolyn and at the same time, he is very likely to lose her, due to the fact he never listens to her. Being so concentrated on job often leads to family life crisis. I wonder what is going to happen next.

Joanna, you are a cynic, LOL, Jimmy became a multi-millionaire, his kids grew up to head the family charitable foundations and his wife had many wonderful relationships. Thank you for reading, Terry.

Hi Terry,
I expect he'll soon learn that a million dollars won't go as far as it used to! That's four college tuitions, and what if someone wants to be a doctor! What if they all want to go to Ivy League Schools? What if he wants to send them to private school along the way? No, a million dollars won't go as far as you want it to anymore. Sad, but true!
That's what can go wrong!
Susan :)

Susan, LOL, well he is only twenty-seven years old, maybe he will do okay! Thank you for reading. Terry.

Lol. Apparently, Jim didn't just drink and eat chicken. He was quite a Johnny appleseed. I loved the self doubt. If anyone takes on a new venture and life and they aren't scared shitless, then they aren't looking at the whole picture. Great job on this. I was rooting for him the whole time. Gretchen

This is interesting and has a surprise ending but I don't get why his wife being pregnant would cause such concern. They have a lot of promise in their future so why would a small baby get in the way of this? I am not sure. I never had any children so maybe I don't know the significance of her saying she is pregnant. Would you please tell me what the significance of her statement is?

Jesse, we never had kids either, but it did seem like others who did feel it was more pressure on them. I think the additional kids just added to list of things to worry about.

Sounds like he was looking for things to go wrong. I liked the lead-up to the conclusion anyway.

They will do it to you every time. You are full of yourself, I just bagged the cutest girl in the town, "Honey, I'm pregnant." You start out on the new job, but you do not yet know if things are going to work out, "Honey I'm pregnant." Congratulations you are a success, Your business is booming, your kids are growing up to be scholars fast tracking to college, then either, "Daddy, I'm pregnant", or "Dad, my girlfriend is pregnant." Followed by the old pregnant pause. I love it, please forgive my alternate ending.

Nomi, thank you for the six stars and the alternate ending! And of course, thank you for reading and reviewing my story. I did enjoy writing it. Terry.

Loved it. The characters were well-defined and, while Jimmy's approach is 180 degrees from my own, I found the read really good. I do believe a lot of people succeed due to fear of failure; my own thoughts are always of all the things that can go right. I'm always shocked if something doesn't work and usually go about determining that 'doesn't work' is really positive. lol
With that thought in mind, your story was even more interesting and enlightening. Terry, your ability to write crosses over so many genres. I continue to be amazed at your work.
I did find one very small thing to suggest: --This happened back before the internet -- I would omit the work 'back'. Just a suggestion.
Glad you made the post. ann

Ann, thank you for the six bright stars! It was a fun story to write. I do get your point about "back." I did that on purpose I wanted a down-home "Garrison Keillor" feel. Thanks, Terry.

Makes sense. ann

This sounds eerily familiar. It seemed like every time my husband made a financial venture that involved upfront cash, I became pregnant. I think the Lord lights those homefires to test us. A delightful read on the complexities of life.
Sending you my best today as always,

Most brave entrepreneurs struggle I think with their belief that they can climb every mountain but somewhere deep inside there is always a tiny piece of doubt teasing us about whether things will go exactly as planned or if life will throw us that curve. You wrote the story perfectly!

You have become a fantastic storyteller, right before my very eyes. Your stories are compelling, creative, grammatically correct, succinct, and easy to read. There is usually an unspoken inspirational message. I enjoyed reading this story with its happy and humorous ending.
