Carol,
That's some good writing and a great story. Having experienced greed of in-laws when my husband's parents passed, I have experienced that awful "I-want-mine" attitude. What a sad, sad situation for you.

Thanks so much, Sue. I did cave (because that's me) and he gets a small allotment each month. I thought he would change....I was wrong. We do not speak except he calls when he needs something. I try not to answer. So sad!
Hugs, Carol

WOW!!! I enjoyed reading your contest entry. I don't understand how people can be so greedy over inheritance. Really, I don't. It seems all they want from a parent is inheritance. What about losing a parent?? Thank you for sharing and good luck, though I doubt you'll need it. This is a winner.

Thanks Barbara. I really fussed with myself about writing it, but in the end, it's the truth he chose. I caved and gave him an allotment, but it meant nothing to him. He took it but didn't change. I hope he can face the Lord with an explanation for his greed.

Whoa a sad ending ( I presume) to the brother/sister relationship, Carol. Your mother, unfortunately, knew of his ways. I'm sorry for you, but you have no regrets like he does. Maybe not now, but they are there. Your story was told well with great details.
Best wishes, Jan

Me being me, I caved in and gave him an allotment every month. I know my mother was angry and I thought it might make him change. Unfortunately, it did not!

Oh, I bet that hurt, and serves him right! What did he say to you? I'm sure it wasn't nice. But it was your mother who wrote the will, not you, and she only left him what he deserved. Why you thought you had to protect him, I don't know. You take too much pain on yourself. Enough it enough. Perhaps he learned a great lesson in that letter. Did he take the dollar?? Well done, my friend, this is a winner in my mind. Good luck! :)) Sandra xxx

I imagine you know what I am going to say because of the sucker I am... In the end, I caved and gave him an allotment each month. I thought he would change. He didn't!

Hmm, you are too nice for your own good. Your mother will be looking down rolling her eyes, but smiling, she probably knows what you would do. Your brother on the other hand, is a most ungrateful toerag! Sorry, but it's true. Love and hugs. xxxx

Yes, he is. I thought he might regret his decisions but he never showed one moment of chagrin. My conscience is clear and I wish him the best, but stay away from me, because my heart can't claim him as family. I'm losing a lot of family lately... Could thing I have friends like you.

You have many friends on here, Carol. Whenever you want to get it out, write it down, we will back you up. xxxx

I'm sure there are many cases in which a parent doesn't want to leave anything to a child who never had time for them when they were living. What people need to remember is: an inheritance is a gift, not a responsibility. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks, my friend. I caved because I thought if I gave him money he would try to rebuild our relationship. I was wrong. He gets an allotment each month and we don't talk. What can I say? I am a sucker.

Just remember . . . you did the right thing. And now you can wipe your conscience clean and never let it happen again. Smiles back at ya, Ric

Excellent Carol! It was short and to the point. I cheered you on through this story and was elated it finished the way it did. I can't say enough about your writing and professionalism. I will be waiting to vote. I wish you much success.

Thank you, John. In the end, I stayed true to myself (the sucker I am) and did give him money (an allotment each month) thinking it might change him. It didn't!

Ah, the devil never changes, he only sheds a skin. You did what came natural to you, nothing wrong with that, my friend.

Thank you!

Unfortunately neither one of my parents had anything to leave in the long run, because, dad's dwindled down to very little, because of mismanagement by the executors, but I guess this Isla true storyl beautifully written dear Carol, blessings Roy

I didn't admit in the end I caved in and gave him an allotment each month thinking it would change him and he would realize how lucky he was.... "It didn't"

You did a good job with the prompt and guidelines. That was quite a story. I am sorry it was true. I see you are an accomplished writer, so it would be silly of me to tell you to keep it up. Best wishes, though.

This is excellent as all your writing is. My oldest brother also thought he should have everything when dad died. My Dad fooled him and had sold the farm to the brother who truly wanted to carry on farming several years before. There was nothing my oldest brother could do and he was furious.

My brother refused to help me while I was caretaker for my mother who had cancer, my husband who was terminal, and my father in his late 90's. All he wanted was money. Foolish me - I gave him what he wanted in the end because I felt guilty.
Hugs, Carol
