Your story was something beautiful for me to read this afternoon, while listening to something beautiful and seeing some beautiful images.
You and I seem to be similar in some aspects, about what we notice and feel (and also an appreciation of ice cream!) I have stopped reading the newspaper cover to cover. I stay informed, but not at the expense of my equilibrium.
These lines are wonderful:
'The world is breathtakingly beautiful and ours for enjoyment. It costs nothing except to pause long enough to take it in. '
and:
'There is beauty all around us and it's there for a reason. Could it be purposefully directing our attention to God? I think so. '
and:
'The Bible says, "Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy--meditate on these things." Philippians 4:8

This is beautiful Sally, really beautiful. We do need to step away from everything negative that distracts us from the beauty of God's creation all around us. We really need to be careful what we watch on TV. You're absolutely right about that. Thank you for sharing this inspirational and well written work. Great job and well done!

Hi, Sal. You get my very last sixer for this week because your essay speaks so well to me. I like the entire thing from start to finish. The beauty around us can sometimes not be realized until it is temporarily taken from you. I give you credit for keeping yourn positive attitude considering everything going on with your sight etc.

The line about the ice cream story is amusing; however, perhaps it detracts from your message. Just a thought.
"I had a friend who was a trauma nurse, eventually quitting her job because ..." seems wordy. Consider using "My friend, a trauma nurse, eventually quit her job because...."
I especially like the image of the encore of sunrise.

Hi Sally, I don't have a six for this, but I wholeheartedly agree with you. We are surrounded by so much beauty, which the daily news seems determined to squash. I only look at the headlines and open up on what I wan't to read. When I see the world is still standing I tune out. You may be shocked, but I don't have a TV. I'm not interested. I sailed for such a long time that the sunrise and the sunset was enough to tell me that all was well. That doesn't mean I don't know what is going on. But I refuse to take the whole world's problems on my shoulders. The only difference between you and me is that I'm not religious. A hug. Ulla xx

I know when it's time to do a little self care. You can almost feel it when you've been doing too much. I can't imagine being a trauma nurse and seeing all that stuff. No thank you. I had a rough morning and it looked like rain but I was able to squeeze my walk in without getting rained on. Guess it was meant to be.

Spot on about the beauty God has given us to enjoy. And care for. Even looking forward to my morning coffee is cheerful - we were at the coast a few weeks ago and had two perfect days of sun (unusual for our coast) - what a blessing.

Sally, this is a lovely inspiring read. It acts as a reminder that we should all stop and take more time to smell the roses. We can all get caught in the negativities that try to lure us away from the goodness in life. Even social media and technology has its downside and can definitely affect our health. The daily news is always depressing. I hardly watch tv now and I loathe brainless reality tv - Love at First Sight - get a life. I don't know if you have that show but it is sad how people today try to find love or fame. Very shallow.

Loved reading this great story. Maybe the friend who worked in Nursing needed the Lord? I have trouble hearing these days I was not sure what version the Something Beautiful song was? I know another one of the same name but I was not sure if this was the same. I appreciated you acknowledging the negative in the world. Loved reading this great story. Maybe the friend who worked in Nursing needed the Lord? I have trouble hearing these days I was not sure what version the Something Beautiful song was? I know another one of the same name but I was not sure if this was the same. I appreciated you acknowledging the negative in the world.
