This brings back memories of riding them as a child. I'd change that second line to make it rhyme. Maybe something like 'horses gliding and musical sound.' Or maybe he imagines hoofs that pound. In the second last stanza, today should be one word.

Very nice flowing children's poem which should definitely appeal as all kids love those hobby horses on the merry go round. You have made good use of rhyme and language. Enjoyable read and good luck with the contest. Faye

It's really great - add apostrophe for contraction of it is
I like the imaginative examples of what a child riding the merry go round might pretend to be
