This is one of the most profoundly beautiful poems, I've ever had the privilege of reading dear friend, the richness of these words, bless the very souls of those long forgotten heroes, whose energy now spent in ashes laid to rest will live, resounding in the echoes of these words, well done outstanding work, blessings, Roy

There is no person out there who's words and sincerity could have more encouragement and inspiration to me than yours, dear friend, and brother in Christ and GOD ALMIGHTY! We do stand together in common mind to serve the Lord with our thoughts and our words, intended to bring the light of GOD;s LOVE into this deeply troubled world, to the best of our capabilities! My light joins with yours always in this mission! Blessings and my sincere gratitude go out to you! Vance

Very beautifully written sentimental and melancholy, poem. I just posted one that is called A Black Day. Your poem is very prime and proper, as it shows the funeral in a perspective of the transformation after death into dust again. Also, how one would see the funeral from setting in a pew, thinking all the thoughts as we watch the service for our loved ones or friends begin their journey to Heaven. Sherman541
A Black Day is more like the final realization maybe.
Mine is a different take on a funeral. I just saw some black umbrellas, one day not long back and this came rushing into my head
I thought in order to emphasize my point on or in a Black Day, I would use the word black. Also, it is always hard to say good bye, so sad and usually dark and dreary because of it, but then we say our good byes and realize that they are going home and we will see them again one day, then the sun shines again and we can move on. You might enjoy reading the poem.

This is quite superb. A powerful work with it's messages of how to live life and the messages of the dead. Very well written with great description and emotion.

I've done what I seldom do. I've read this beautiful poem three times. I wallowed in the wisdom of an author who respects the dead and all their striving, their struggles, their victories, talents, mistakes and triumphs while they were alive. Indeed they're the seeds of new life.
Hence this author's wisdom.

You're a wonderful poet, Vance, and while I'd love to emulate such depth and ability, I know I don't have the talent. I will most certainly be reading more of your marvellous work,
Every good wish, Mike

Close your eyes and see yourself
In the face of everyone you meet
Find the courage to feel compassion
For one day each of us
Will blend together in the ash
Hopefully our ashes replenishing the earth for future generations. JO

WOW!! I'm overwhelmed. What a beautiful way to look at it!!
I can't really pick a favorite stanza here because the whole thing spoke to me. It's strange how much deeper writers seem to think...or is it just that we can express it.
Wonderfully insightful! THANK YOU for sharing it!

heavy. dark. alone. solitude amongst all the other solitudes. the lone quiet spirit must listen to whatever it can from whomever it can and find richness in other's words/accomplishments and break the secret silence and tell the rest of us souls that we have to do the same thing if we are to capture any meaningful meaning in our lives. The ash was NOT a metaphore this time and this is TRULY one of the -at first reading- SCARIEST of your poems. The second reading gives the peace and comfort as the "solution" is simply to recognize the richness of all the other souls individually, be they living or sleeping. Thanks, Grey

I think you do feel many emotions when you go to a funeral or cemetery. There are so many different spirits around us. WE may not know they are their, but they are. We should have just as much respect for death as do for life. Thanks for sharing such a lovely piece.
