I like this poem very much. It really gives the reader a sense of how a person with Alzheimer sees and experiences things. Very recognizable when you know relatives or friends confronted with this terrible disease.

Oh my gosh. I'm seriously starting to tear up. And trust, me...it takes a lot for me to cry. Really. OH my gosh, I don't even know where to begin this review! What a sad, honest poem this is. And then reading the note about your brother. I have full on chills of emotion. This disease really is one of the most tragic illnesses I know of, if not the most. You know someone, even a close family member, for your entire life...they may have even raised you. And then the next thing you know, they don't remember you. No matter how hard you try to explain to them, to get them to remember anything at all, they don't remember the most treasured moments you spent together. They don't remember your name. They don't remember your life. Ever again. It's over. There is absolutely nothing that can compare to that. You just want your mom back. Or your brother. Or your friend. Even for a moment. But it's not possible. And that is just so, so sad. This poem is truly well-written and from the heart. If I could give it seven stars I would. Please keep writing.

Cmin7flat5, oh my are you a musician? First of all, I must apologize for my late response to such a wonderful review. I am truly humbled, but even more so, because this did not pay you one cent to write a review for. It is most humbling. Alzheimers is devastating as any other disease that takes our loved ones away and casues them such agony in the process.. again thank you so very very much... jlsavell

I completely agree, and I am so sad for everyone who has to go through it and/or watch someone go through it.
And yes, I am a musician. A jazz trumpet player, actually. And you? If you understand my screen name then of course you are a jazz musician ;-)
-
I don't have a musical bone in my body, I am pretty keen on deciphering pen names, tho many times I miss it by a long shot.. but yours was definitely musical..As for music, I love it and I am fascinated by it.

Wow, sorry I haven't been on here in quite a while...! Yes, you're absolutely right! It's a jazz chord :)

This is excellent, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this poem so I had to read all of it from start to finish, it is such a heart felt true to life poem which thoroughly describes a mans sad story of suffering from a lonely disease.

Alzheimer's is a curse. It effects everyone lose to those who suffer. The person you knew dies long before the body does. A stranger invades the body until it dies. Great work.

Great poetry writing! My mother passed away January 22, 2010 and also had dementia. We would show her photographs and when we went to see her she would forgot our names now and then to remember. We loved our mother and it was a very sad difficult time as she got older. Great job on your poem!

This is an incredibly touching and moving poem. Even if one does not know the tragedies of the disease, you cannot help but be moved by this poem.
It is evident that the author is affected greatly, as it shows in every line.
Thank you so much for exposing yourself so openly.

This is a horrific disease my children step mother came down with it. She was a good friend and is truly missed. She never forgot me or my children. She always called me the good woman. I smile whenever I think of her. She died also. So I know what you went through, however time heals all wounds. Very good story.

Powerful. Impressed how the poet is able to enter the mind of a patient with Alzheimer's, talk in simple self-speak and convey the horror of functioning without a working memory.
