Another powerful and emotional story Susan. You know how to grab the reader. What consuming word choices and phrases: like warm prison, sanctuary etc. Stan

this is very well written, susan, a great job writing this story about the moon that gave the colt the incentive to stand on its feet and struggle to survive, great imagery

The was a good story my friend. At first I was scare the filly might have been still-born; thankfully not. As far as the cat itself, I hope he got to eat without disturbing mother or the new baby. Well written.

Susan,
Happy New Year!
This is an excellent short story about new life and how uncertain can be its beginnings. I enjoyed this post and couldn't find anything to criticize.

A good piece about horses your pet subject. Although it made good reading, I wished you had added more to the story proper. Check the use of ellipses... It is better to finish the sentence with a period and start the next sentence with a capital letter. For example, sustenance. And
sac- I think it should be sack.

Hi Susan :)
Wonderful piece, written so well, and I assume from experience.
You had me wondering for a moment if there would be a dark ending. Not so, you came through with a ray of moon-shine.
One little Nit:
black [at] pitch, -- A typo.
Good job.

I've had the pleasure of witnessing a few births here on the farm and it never gets dull watching new life come forth.
black at pitch -- black as pitch
Very well done, Buck

Hi Buck! I know, kittens, foals, even little piglets, are so sweet. It always makes me hopeful, for all things. But, as a kid I hated the sheep. They were just too much. After they grew up, the stupid kicked in and I had to take them in 4-H. OH MY LORD!!!! That's another story! Lol~ Thank you for a helpful and kind review my friend! Hug! Susan

And so another life enters the world. You've given us a beautiful image, Suse, of the moonilght on the foal, and her delayed reaction to birth. I wonder if she'll be a dreamer. :) Nancy

YES! I was thinking about a part two to this? With the foal growing up...good thought and thanks for this great review too! SO glad you enjoyed this Nancy! I have been so weak I haven't been able to go out and even see my horses. They won't know me soon. Oh well. I can't help it. Thanks again my friend! HUGS! Susan

I might suggest breaking up the 1st paragraph into two, but otherwise, I see no other nits to pick with this short tale. Heartwarming message of hope in the New Year underscored by the grittiness of reality (the cat awaiting its meal, the apathy of the other horses etc). Nicely done, Suze. May you be blessed with improved health and lots of good writing this year.
