Oh no!
Description in this piece is 'spot-on'. I could almost feel myself as part of the herd.
A very sad ending, although probably a very realistic ending.
Very well written.

This is a beautifully told, tragic story of the darker side of nature. I kept reading initially hoping to see how the mare and the foal survived. You shocked the reader with the realistic and sad descriptive scene of the eagle claiming its prize. So sad. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Debbie...I thank you very much! AND I hope you get to go out west too. WHere was the horse ranch you visited as a child? It was a neat place, where ever it was. You would love it out there, but the winter is harsh...well, it was here this year...good old Indiana...yuck. ") Love...susan

Susan,
This is an excellent story of nature's way. I enjoyed reading this post and couldn't find anything here to criticize.

This is truly a well-crafted work. Excellent story-telling, description and insight into the ways of Nature. Your words flowed so smoothly, and rang with authenticity and clarity. You deliver the emotions and temper them with the knowledge that each animals must find it's way to survive. Awesome!

Hi Mary!! Thank you my dear friend! I am thrilled that you live in such a place! Wow...I hope you will write about your places too! ") I love nature, tho it is cruel...I watched a show where the wolves ate a buffalo alive. She was bogged down in the mud and could not escape. But the wolves have to live too. It's just so distressing. I cried...but thank you for being here Mary...I love your friendship!! Susan

Susan,
This one made me say Whoa!
This is powerful.
Good descriptions.
I liked it even though it is sad.
You capture nature very well.
This happens over and over again, life and death
Great job.

Hi Katie! Thank you! I love to write like this...altho many say I have to do dialogue...but animals don't talk? Lol..and boy, nature is cruel...so, an extra thank you for reading this anyway...I really appreciate it Katie! HUGS!! Susan

Susan, you're welcome. I think your piece worked well. I understand what they are saying though.. and this is true of all writing.. technically they are right, the best, best stories are the ones that have a good balance of dialogue and description, but sometimes stories have to be all dialogue or all description. They are still good stories, just different..though if you want a super blockbuster you probably do have to write a story that has dialogue and description. I liked it.
Hugs,
Katie

") Yes, that's true...a movie or novel can't just be one or the other!! But a little story, I think it's okay? Thanks for your kindness, you always make it worthwhile Katie!! Susan

If I had a six it
would be yours -
an exceptional piece of
descriptive writing,
speaking of survival
in the wild - how cruel
is nature some times.

tomorrow is surgeon day - and (hopefully) I will get this blessed cast removed - 3wks I've had it - perhaps are less restricting support. M
-
Oh yes!! Let me know? Just don't bang it once the cast is off? I did that once. Oh it hurt. Let me know?? xoxo, susan
-
so disappointed - cast been removed, but another in its place to support thumb and wrist - yet, not quite so restricting. Colin says hello. M
-
Oh, dear...it must have been bad then, Margaret...at least it's a bit of an improvement!! I sure hope it heals...I do know that my brother's hand took forever! Be patient...and hello to Colin too! Hugs to all!! Susan
