You know I love happy endings, and this is is a doozie, but I also like justice, but you've cleverly negotiated a great story, with both. Rape of kids atrocious, and combing it as abuse of a minor is much worse, this is a thoroughly satisfying ending, and another great story to add to your myriad of amazing writing, well done Carol, beautifully done, blessings Roy, love

Thanks, Roy... It's a topic that comes close to home behind doors I'd rather leave closed...but I thought this story was a good representation when I came across it the other day. Thanks for reading and reviewing. Smiles, Carol

Another well-written story. It's a bit graphic in spots. I really like that you begin and end with the same sentence. No wonder this was a contest winner! Thanks for reposting. Carol

you are correct but I guess my mind set at the time was that I needed the story to come across as realistic as possible. Thank you so much Carol for always following me and supporting my writing. Smiles, Carol

I'm sorry I missed this the first time posting it. Thank you for re-posting. This happens way to often.

Mother smiled, "Sweetie, be a good girl now. Maybe we can stop for ice cream on the way home." (period after smiled. It's not a speech tag.)

This is quite a story, and one that happens every day of life, although not ending the same. It makes me beyond anger to see a man get away with something like this and blame the innocent girl. I'm so glad she got there and shot him, and yes she "should have killed" him. Extremely well written, you deserve the prize.

An excellent story about the incestuous behavior of a sexual predator. This subject is such a hard one to fathom, since it goes against parents instincts to protect their children at all costs.

You've portrayed the characters well, their emotions and the effect the rapes had on their missed childhoods. A very powerful story. Carrie was right, it's too bad she didn't kill him. - Thesis

This is a very tragic, yet well written story. It's only the first one I've read, but will probably get my vote. We'll see what the others hold. Nice work here.

before sprinting the remainder (of the) way home

That was, well you see my rating. I haven't read all the entries but yours is very very good. Now I admit I'm a sucker for a happy ending. While this ending isn't truly happy, it does have it's perks.
Good job!

What a great story. you kept me wanting to read. I was in complete disbelieve that the mother had part in the rape and then expected the daughter to apologize. She was able to get to her sister and reveal the truth about Jack. great read and good luck!

I guess there are all kinds in this world..we never really know the true person that passes us by on the street...It scares me tht a mother could do that too! Thank you for the kind and generous review. Smiles, Carol

Its so sad ..i mean not only the stepfather but the attitude of a mother...just terrible. I am glad the sister was saved.
The story has been written with clarity of thought and flowed easily. Kept me glued...no on tenterhooks till the end.
