The Great Fitted Sheet Battle

What is it with fitted sheets? They're a mystery to me.

My husband put a B on the bottom f the sheet with black marker. You can also buy striped sheets. As for folding... we don't. They come off the bed, get washed, dried on the line, are brought in and put back on the bed. If I ever did have to fold one, I'd roll the sucker up. Glad to see I'm not the only one who finds these things difficult. Have you ever tried those jar openers? Don't.

    Hello Sallyo,
A surprising number of people just wash and dry the sheets and put them back on the bed, without the hassle of folding them. It may come to that some day. As it is, I like a little variety for some reason, so we have several sets of sheets for each bed. I'm sure that the majority of people who do fold their sheets have issues with them. Thanks so much for the great review gal.
    Have a blessed day.

I have the same problem that you do with fitted sheets. You can find instruction for doing it correctly on Utube but who wants all that hassle. All I can say is don't buy all cotton sheets because they wrinkles too much. A blend that doesn't hold wrinkles, if it fits the mattress correctly the corners will pull it smooth on the bed. Go around the sheet and find the tag and put it at the top of the bed. This is the only way I can get them on straight. If you've been in service, you've likely been taught how to do the corners of a flat sheet so it want crawl off the bed. I don't know that trick. Like you my flat sheet look awful in the linen closet.

    Hello Beth,
Even after watching a video or listening to someone explain how to do it, I still struggle. I don't like to have my top sheet tucked in, it's too confining. My wife likes it, but I don't. I learned how to do the sheets in the navy years ago, but haven't tried that for so long I couldn't do it if I wanted to, which I don't.
I've been meaning to tell you I got the check several days ago- thanks so much.
    Have a blessed day gal.

Fun story about something most people don't admit. You have to be a little anal to get it right every time. I do have one set of expensive sheets and they aren't any easier to fold, but they do have a little tag that says "top". Very helpful.

    Hi Carol,
there are a few people who own sheets that tell you which one goes where or some such thing. I have a set of bamboo sheets that have little straps on the corners of the bottom sheet, but they still aren't all that helpful. In fact when it comes to folding them, they are more of a hindrance. Oh well, one of life's little annoyances. How many people in the world don't even have a proper bed to sleep on, much less sheets? Thanks so much for the great review gal.

As soon as I read the title of this piece, I chuckled and thought of my husband. On YouTube, I've watched several ladies neatly fold fitted sheets. It's easy, but it involves laying the sheet out on the bed upside down so you can see, fold over and smooth out the elasticized corners. The problem is, my husband and I fold the sheets together. He refuses to lay a sheet on the bed if you're not using it to make the bed. Therefore, we stand, holding the ends of the sheet and fold together, the best way we can. In the end, our fitted sheets look like those you described.

I'm glad to know we're not the only ones frustrated by fitted sheets.

    Hello LJ,
this is a greater problem than many people realize. It just goes to show how much alike we are as a people. We all deal with the same issues, it's just that some folks speak about it, and others just accept things as they are. I have a tendency to complain unfortunately, but I find it you can find the humor in each situation, it makes it better. Thanks so much for the wonderful review gal.

I laughed aloud at this story. I can absolutely relate to this, as I'm sure tons of people can. I also loved your author's notes about the picture. Thank you for sharing, and best wishes to you.

Thanks so much Jessi for the right on review. I bet there are more people who can relate than not for sure. We put up with the frustration of folded sheets because they are practical I guess. I suppose the fighters in the days of Rome can be glad they didn't have to face folded sheets in the arena, no doubt most of them would have lost.

Elaine doesn't seem to mind them, I likewise have real problems with something one can't fold them, because they don't have natural angles to them, my dear wife doesn't mind the mysteries, praise God for patient wives, well done, blessings Roy

    Hello Roy,
isn't that the truth? Where would man be without wives who have the patience and kindness to help those of us who aren't endowed with means to do certain tasks. Thanks so much for the fine review.

I fold all my sheets except my fitted sheet. I wad it up and put in the closet until next week. I don't have problems with wrinkles because it fits the mattress tight enough that the wrinkles stretch out. LOL I found this post cute and enjoyable.

    Oh Barbara,
your honesty makes me laugh gal. I wonder how many people do just that. Of course there are some that have mastered the art, but I'm not amongst them. Thanks so much for the funny review gal.

Hi Tom, I'm with you about the fitted sheets. I do an ok job, but not great. As a child, I do not remember fitted sheets. We always had two flat sheets, and in those days, if a homemaker could make their bed with hospital corners that was impressive. Needless to say, my house was not impressive. The battle of the fitted sheets is endless, especially with the modern, deeper mattresses. Standing at 5 feet tall, I am no longer able to change our sheets. The extra-deep mattress did me in. Tom, I'm like you, and I don't like wrinkled sheets or wrinkled anything. If/when that happens, I put the sheet back into the dryer, spritzer them with some water, and leave them in the dryer for about 10 mins to remove the wrinkles. Energy wasteful, yes, but I try to make up for it in other ways like conserving on the gas, electric, and water, and running my dishwasher and other appliances during off-peak hours, etc. After all, we have to live, and having our sheets the way we want them, is well worth it. Also, because of the folding and wrinkling thing, I tend to take the sheets off, wash and dry them on the same day, and then have my hubby put them back onto the bed--at least our bed. That takes care of the folding issue.

Tom, you wrote a fun and relatable story. Well done; well told.
Margaret

    Hello Margaret,
its always so nice to hear from you gal. There are several other people who wash and dry the sheets and put them back on the same day. I think the same anal though process that makes me hate the wrinkles, also makes me want to put on different colored sheets every other week. I don't know how anyone can stand plain white sheets. I need some kind of color or pattern. Where Jan worked they sold bedding. One time they had camouflage sheets and pillow cases. One of the employees, who was black, said if he wore camo PJs and didn't open his mouth to smile, his wife would never know he was in bed. He is a funny guy. Thanks so much for the encouraging review gal.
    Have a blessed day.

As you will note from the stars, I get your sense of humour. My daughter in law is a self confessed sufferer from OCD which makes her a great nurse practitioner, extraordinarily gifted at keeping an immaculate home in spite of three untidy children, one shedding dog, and an inventor husband. Needless to say all laundry including fitted sheets are beautifully folded and stored.
On the other hand, while I love fitted sheets, my idea of folding them is to bundle them up as small as possible.

My advice to you is to start your own YouTube channel. You'll need a partner to do all the tech stuff of course.

Thanks for entertaining readers and hopefully yourself.

Blessings, Julia

    Hello Julia,
thanks so much for the exceptional review. As I'm writing this, I was thinking, we have some of those bags that you can suck all the air out with a vacuum. When you mentioned making the sheets as small as possible, I thought of that. Hmmm... of course I'd still have the issue with the wrinkles, but it's worth thinking about anyway.
    Have a blessed day gal.

Loved this, Tom. I can so identify with your problems with this invention. I know how to solve the folding problem, though. When it's too disgusting to sleep on anymore (primarily from stinky feet and farting in bed a lot), simply take them off, launder them and put them right back on. No need to fold it at all. That doesn't solve the rest of the problems, but it's one less to deal with anyway.

    Hello Jim,
its too bad we can't give stars for reviews, or you'd get a six for yours. That's too funny. I suppose that would solve one problem for sure. In the navy we didn't have sheets, we had fart sacks. Perhaps they were on to something. Thanks for the laugh.
    Have a blessed day.
