Thank you for sharing this contest entry with us. My oldest son, Greg, wanted to mail his little brother, Jeff to the Salvation Army. I enjoyed reading and smiled as I read. Good luck with the contest.

Dad laughed, "No, Ruth, Danny is here to stay the same as you." (laughed. it's not a speech tag, it's an action tag.)

One of them is my brother Danny, and another is my sister Carol, who recently turned ninety. (brother, & sister, )

sibling rivalry exists forever and ever. And I imagine especially when one is younger and loses things that they believe are theirs and not to be shared. I'm glad the three of you can still laugh about it.
Smiles, Carol

Thank you. I remember being insanely jealous of my little brother for a long time. Danny is still here, so I must have got over it. Lol

My one daughter has always been jealous of her younger brother and she's 44. LOL

This is absolutely wonderful and must be a winner in my book. You tell the story so clearly and honestly and use hilarious (infused with resentment) words like 'usurper' and 'interloper.' It reminds me of my son's reaction when he came into hospital to visit after I'd had his baby sister. He had to be forcibly removed from the ward by more than one adult! And things didn't get much better after that. Your picture speaks a thousand words but your humorous and entertaining story says it all. Well done and good luck! Debbie

It's tough to give up the spotlight when you are the youngest. I resented my first nephew because I was the cute little one. Then my brother who was much older than me got married and had a child. Everybody doted on him.i felt your pain. Gretchen

Thank you. It was tough. I was the proverbial spoiled brat and wasn't ready to give up my spot. Lol

Great write up! Danny looks like a chunkier and you look like a hellion. Too funny!

Suggest:
"Why? I wailed. "You don't need him;
(Missing " after Why?)

I enjoyed this. Thank you for sharing!

This is well written. Detailed and leaving nothing to the imagination. You told it like it is ... or like it was!

Daddy's have a tendency to also tell it like it is. Good thing for Danny and you kept at bay.

I'm n sure you grew up close !

Great childhood story. Thanks for sharing.

John

Thank you. Growing up in a large family has its ups and downs. Danny was one of my downs, but I got over it.

I really had to laugh as I read your story... and cry a little too.
I was 3 1/2 and the only child when my brother was born. Oh... I too tolerated him for a few months.... And then one day I told my Mom she could send him back now as we have had him long enough!
Over the years, we joked about it and a couple times I commented... Don't you wish you had sent him back!?
Well , Im 75 now snd my brother passed away last January of complications from cancer. He was 67 ... ironically passing away on his birthday.
Have to admit that I miss him now and wished we hadn't sent him back.

Thank you. I'm happy to see that I'm not the only one who resented a new arrival to the family. I'm 78 now, and my brother is 74. I still tell him we should have sent him back. (joke) Lol

Yes, I can certainly see where the apple of daddy's eye getting pushed aside a little for the newborn brother might be a little trying to get used to. LOL. Thanks for sharing.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story, which I can relate to. I've written, but haven't posted, a story about being four years old when a new baby came.

Your story describes your delightful picture perfectly. Little Danny is totally unaware of the vengeful smile of his big sister' face. Your picture is priceless. This is a great story. Best wishes in the contest.

Thank you. It sounds like you had a similar situation. I think sibling rivalry is a common thing, especially in large families.

Hahahahahaha!!! This is absolutely priceless! I enjoyed every word. Sibling interactions - especially those early on - just fascinate me. Your expression in this photo could not be more candid, could it? It speaks VOLUMES!! Glad you grew to love him over time, and I'm glad he's still around FOR you to still love!!

Great job, and good luck with this in the Childhood Photo contest!! xo
