An intelligent piece of writing. Thought-provoking and filled with wisdom. A little bit prose-like but some most effective free verse along the way. And your note explains everything. Well done!

Thanks for the excellent review and your words of support for this piece. I was surprised by the positive response, and a bit cheered by the fact that there still seems to be people who believe freedom is a space to be used responsibly and with consideration and respect for others. estory

Here, Here! I've always believed that freedom was just another word in our vocabularies to idolize an ability to do whatever we wanted to do. These days though, I think you are right; it is not to be misused or abused simply because we can. I think too that freedom is to be used to do something good in life and with what is happening worldwide, that seems to be more impossible each day. I may be a boomer, but for whatever time I have left, I would like to do what's right, not make life more difficult for others. Thanks for writing, this one is a beauty!

Thanks so much for the exceptional review, and I must say I was heartened by the positive response to this. It is good to find out that there are still people who believe that freedom is a space to be used responsibly, with compassion and empathy and respect for others, rather than as a place to do whatever you want or whatever you get away with. I appreciate all the support. estory

No one is ever totally free. With freedom comes rules for our protection. We aren't free to break them. We like to have freedom from a dictatorship. Freedom for hunger. Free to own our on home but that freedom somes with regularation. If we pay our takes we loose the freedom to own the land. People used to say they wanted to be free to smoke. Others said your freedom ends where my nose begans. Now you free to smoke only in certain areas. Freedom never means total free to do whatever you feel at the moment.

Thanks for the excellent review and I think your perspective on this issue is similar to mine. Freedom is a space to be used responsibly, with consideration and respect for others. Not just to do whatever you want or whatever you can get away with, which is what most people seem to believe nowadays. estory

I've just written a very short verse about freedom and agree entirely with your view here. There's a lot of emphasis on what now seems to be an individual right to say and do whatever we want, regardless of the consequences. And that's a strong and relatable message to me that we should attune ourselves to considering others before our own needs. We can't re-write history or even judge from our armchairs those in the past with whom we now disagree. As your fine free verse suggests, it's what we do with what liberty we have rather than searching forever for that elusive goal of exclusive freedom. Thank you for sharing this well expressed poem. Take care Debbie

Thanks so much for your excellent review and I was heartened so much by your words of support. I think the idea of freedom has been abused. People need to go back to the idea that freedom is a space to be used responsibly, with consideration for others and respect for others. It is a space to build positive things, not a place to do whatever you want or whatever you can get away with. I'll have to check out your piece. estory

You've crystallised the solution to the world's problems in this powerful piece. The freedom we seek and cherish is that of fulfilment, and fulfilment comes through service to others.

Thanks so much for the excellent review and your support for my poem. I am glad so many people seem to agree with what I was trying to say about using freedom to be positive, rather than negative. estory

I agree. I used to tell my first graders that their ends where another person's freedom begins. I think that's important to understand. Thank you for sharing this very well written and wise poem with us.

That's it exactly. Thanks for the excellent review and your words of support for the piece. I must say I was surprised at all the positive comments. This one got more sixers than many others I wrote that I thought were better pieces. But that shows you how different things can be perceived by different people. estory

Wow, what a powerful piece and how well expressed, and how it resonates with me. I couldn't have said it better. What matters, what makes freedom great is what we do with it. True freedom isn't doing whatever we want without thought of who it might affect and how, because others have rights and freedoms too. As the saying goes, our freedom ends where the freedom of others begins.

Thanks for the excellent review and your powerful words of support, and I must say I found it encouraging that so many people still feel the same way, that one person's freedom ends where another's begins, and we have to use it as a space to create positive things for mankind rather than celebrate the tearing down of the past. estory

Thought-provoking peace and I guess the sixth star is more for that than for exemplary poetic technique.
We seem to be in a confusing world at the moment and your poem reaches this conclusion:
It isn't really freedom itself that matters.
It's what we do with it.
Indeed we do have much more freedom than previous generations, but every day we see those who would abuse it rather than accept it for the gift that it is.
Your notes show you are a religious man, but I am rather glad you did not let those beliefs imping upon the poem.
Good stuff.

This is absolutely a beautiful message that everyone needs to consider when they talk about freedom. I agree with the whole premise of this poem, and it flows very well. I wish you the very best with all of your writing. May you have a very merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous new year. Patricia.
