Terry, a truly enchanting and delightful story of the beginning of Santa Claus. I enjoyed reading.
I have one thought, at the beginning you included a boy and girl. Do you need these?
The next paragraph carried the story of the quality of the toys.
Just a thought.
Good luck in the contest. You have a contender here.

Mary, thank you for your review and your observation. My thought on the boy and girl was to try to bring it down to an individual and personal level to a kid. You are right. I may not have needed it, but if a grandmother (and one told she did), read it to a grandchild, I thought it might connect better. Thanks again, Terry.

You have written and amazing story and at the beginning, I was believing every word of it. It is perfect for the fantasy writing contest and after reading this I won't be entering that contest because this fun story would be almost impossible to bear. It was such a fun story to read. You have a fantastic imagination and the ability to make sound believable.

I thought I was reading the history behind a famous toy store like Hamleys
but later realised that i have been carried into the realms of fantasy and this is the story behind Santa Claus. Thank you very much for a different type reading experience.

well, that is some story. They're what I call, movers and shakers! whirlwind decisions, and voila! it all worked out.
Very interesting story, with dates, from the beginning. Great imagination and story and character development. Very good.
Katharine
I just reread this (9/28/2023)
What an imagination, and also the dates and tying everything together. Amazing. A wonderful fantasy entry. You deserved to win and also win All Time Best.
Katharine, again.

This is a really good Christmas story. I enjoyed it very much. In fact, until I got to the part where John was the new Santa Clause, I thought I was reading an historical piece. Excellent work.

Well, I must say, this is certainly a different type of fantasy story. It is very creative and skillfully written. It is rather long but worth taking the time to read. Best of luck in the contest.

Thank you for reading.

Hmm, a retelling of the origin of Santa Claus, set years later in a world where Christmas exist, and giving toys on Christmas exists, but Santa does not. Which raises the question of why Santa would be needed? But, a very interesting tale. A bit long, after the reveal, things seemed to keep going.
Overall, I think the FanStory readers will enjoy, Religion was removed from the tale, and you touched on equity, which older folk like.
Good entry. Perhaps, the winning entry.

This is great! The writer has chosen a much loved character. The choice of apt and effective language and imagery has created an evocative and quite magical, but plausible, approach to Santa. Magic is in the air. This reader would appreciate reading more stories such as this.
