Not all angels live in heaven. Not all angels are equipped with wings. No, some angels will never fly, treasured are the angels that comfort us, as we are about to die. this is a beautiful tribute to a woman who obviously eased the transition from life to the eternal plane for so many valiant men.

Your thoughts on Grace reminded me of the woman who started nursing - they called her the lady with the lamp. Like Grace, she was a frontline nurse in WW1 the beginning of nursing all over the world was started by one women that had no support from men and she fought for her nurses all through the Boer War. Well done. And the Lady with the Lamp was Florence Nightingale. K xx

Rarely if ever do I review long verses, but your artwork tempted to me to do so. Quite a tribute to those medical personnel who have aided soldiers in their recovery and their final journey. So glad your poem's ending gave tribute to one of those encounters that lasted for their lifetimes.

You did a good thing and I salute you. Grace really was an angel, whose presence, I'm certain, made the war and the weary world go away enough to let some soldiers slip away in peace. Grace Glover -- I will remember.

That is soo so beautiful. Very well written and so very deep and touching.
I love it. The illustration really adds depth to this poem. Well done.
Thank you for sharing. I salute you and she for your service.
Write On. May I just add one comment. I prefer no apostrophes. The words stand alone with more strength.

Thanks, Barbara. Sorry about the apostrophe. I'm ( I am) such a stickler for meter, I can't (cannot) help myself.

Out of sixes! Darn! This is wonderfully penned, emotional evocative...

Having spent my life as an RN I have special respect for those nurses who tended our wounded and dying patriots on battlefields of far too many wars.

I can imagine the "Amazing Grace" of her voice soothing with song while feeling her heart break over and over...

So great you brought this poem to her!

My eyes are brimming.

Beautifully written. This poem has a lovely flow to it that carries the reader along. Particularly like how the ending connects back to the beginning. Best poem I've read on this site over the past week.

Wow, wow, wow!! What a GORGEOUS, heartwarming poem this is, with PERFECTION in its meter and rhyme. If this doesn't win first place, there is something seriously wrong with the polls on this site. I am covered in goosebumps from this beautiful tribute to your neighbor and your immense talent. This was a thoroughly enjoyable read for me today. Thank you!

This a beautiful tribute to an amazing lady who comforted soldiers at the time when they needed it the most. Your words do her great honor. I have no doubt each of those soldiers were there to greet her as she passed.
Good luck in the contest.
Best wishes,
Mary

"Grace Glover" is an exceptional poem about a battlefield nurse who eased dying soldiers pain and grief as the died. This artful poem in iambic tetrameter commemorates poignant moments to exemplify the soothing comfort this nurse brings with her care. Although there are one or two small missteps in the sense made by the sequence of lines, this poem works very well to honor how important a last encounter with love can be.
