I wish I had six stars to give you for this very good poem you have penned about your good friend, Jake. You used very good descriptive words and very good imagery from the art work you chose. Blessings, Teri

A nice homage. The poem has the proper feel of country. The simple language and somewhat unpolished, down to earth narrative add to the overall ambience. The final lines resonate with the realization of mortality which comes to us all.
Thanks for a good read.

A nice tributary poem to a friend.
-A nice poetic commentary to homestead and the vocation and dedication to cowboying, to the brush, and ranching that is loved.
-Nice picture of horse and bridle.
Very nice.

This was bittersweet. Whether true or false. It is sad to lose anyone. And especially a great friend. Yes, those cowboys work hard to take great care of families on farms. Death comes knocking at our door when God decides. Thank you for sharing.

Yes indeed, I have lost many friends over the years, some older, some younger, but now I'm one of the older ones. This is superbly written dear Willie, your expertise in writing is second to none, beautifully rhymed, good flowing narrative, great story, well done, blessings Roy

I think you may have accidentally switched font colors starting at the second line in the second stanza but what a poem! finding oneself, work, friendship and loss,, what a lovely poem

A real tribute to an authentic cowboy.
Many people travel within a facade. The cover is alluring and appears authentic. Wrong.
Friendship is based upon truth and fidelity.
A wise man once said:
"You can always recognize a real cowboy. The 'bullshit' is on the outside of the boots."

This is a very nicely done poem. You have certainly captured the aurora of the cowboy and their lifestyle and the relationships they forged. And the old Reaper is mostly definitely hitting close to home. Terry.

Willie...
I very much enjoyed your tribute Jake. It made me feel like I knew him--a Kentucky cowpoke friend with a smile who loved his family and could sing and play the harmonica. And I could feel the impact his death had on you.
Thanks for writing and sharing this with us.
Blessings...

This is a nice ode and could have been part of a good eulogy for his funeral. He sounds like a guy who was comfortable with his life and who he was. Sorry for your loss.
Keep writing and stay healthy
