'Are you calm now, Grandma?' How funny sometimes are the things that come out of a child's mouth! Your love for your granddaughter is evident in your writing. Thanks for sharing.

This is a very interesting story about your daughter and granddaughter. I, too, had more than a little trouble with my daughter. Then I raised her daughter, who was mostly easier to raise. Now my great-grandson is living with us along with his mother. I've decided every child is different and to appreciate the difference. I may not be so understanding when he is sixteen. Jess is a priceless pearl. You are very fortunate.

If I have read you before, and if the past are written as the present, YOU simply DO NOT write enough. Perhaps you are too relaxed in your mid-seventies. Is your profile current or are you now near ninety? I especially agree with the following "Her writing does not make her living but makes her living more pleasant." Well done. I cannot recall reading you before.

I believe you have reviewed me before -- not sure. I am now in my late 70's, but I am still full time employed in my own company. So, I don't have as much time as I would like to write. I do enjoy it and hope to have more time after the first of the year. Thanks so much for reading and for your kind comments. ann

I don't think we need to blame Terry. This is a fine piece of writing. The text is a nice size. The plot is well developed and not rushed. This was an enjoyable read about your granddaughter and her strong will. She seems to have gotten it honestly. I love the photo of her on her horse at the wedding. Her image and posture read spunk! I will never be a grandma, but I love your tale about being one.

Thanks, Sandra, for reading and for commenting. I appreciate your time and your kind words. One does not have to be a grandma to have a similar relationship. Indeed, I have one with my niece who was born just a couple of weeks after my mom died and one day after my 13th birthday. She and I are still very close.
Thanks again for reading and commenting. ann

I do understand that too. You are welcome.

I believe your and Terry's efforts made this story possible and I'm so happy about that. You have a beautiful granddaughter, and it is apparent she loves you deeply. Heart-warming and beautiful. Terry is off the hook and this is a sensational piece. Best, JohnC

What a wonderful story, providing us a glimse of your independent, loving grand daughter. It sounds like she was a real spark plug and knew what she wanted, yet had the heart and presence of mind to be thoughtful and loving to her grandma. You should be proud. Thanks for sharing.

It HAS to be a wedding picture! I'm in love with that dress! They both look so lovely, Jess, and the horse, all done up with the flowers... lovely picture Grandma! Can't wait to be one myself, but I'll give it some time. My son finishes college in December, and last thing I heard from him was, "What if I don't want to have any kids, Mom?" I told him to adopt them... all I want is someone to spoil and call me Grandma! lol
Terry was right, your notes are a story... but then again, you can't really give notes on being a grandma, any more than you can on being a mom. Yes, make 3 squares a day, make sure the kids are clean, homework gets done, etc. But notes don't tell you how to love your child. Very rich people see to it that all those things get taken care of... by a staff of professionals. Doesn't mean their kids have what they actually need. So, your friend was silly not to take your notes, if he goes to a professional, he's going to get... make 3 squares a day, make sure the homework gets done... pointless gibberish. Terry, you've done yourself a disservice! ;) Susan

Ann,
This is a delightful story. Your granddaughter sure seems to be an independent and accomplished young woman. She is blessed to have you as a grandmother. Thanks for the read.
Sue
Fast forward to about her age 3 or so. -- Suggest: Fast forward to her at about age three or so.
Jess equated being sent to her room as solving my problem - not as any sort of punishment or evaluation of her behavior. --This is a wonderful lesson.

And just one of the lessons I've learned from being a grandma. Thanks so much for reading and commenting. I will definitely correct the error you noted. I appreciate your kind review.

I love this because it shows how people can learn and develop and turn into amazing young people, and don't necessarily have to be terrors and be redeemed to get there. This is like an ode to the good ones who deserve a little attention. Your affection soaks every word and that made this a lovely read :-).

Thanks, Mike, I appreciate your time in reading and your kind words. I am blessed with 3 great kids, 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren -- all as unique and different as night to day and summer to winter. Thinking about writing a short about each one and my relationship -- well, at least with the grandkids. ann

I love this story of life and how it comes full circle. You make a very good point about how grandparenting is easier because you've seen it before. And Jess sounds like an absolute treasure to you, to her entire family, and to the community where she now lives. You must be so proud.
A couple of things I noticed along the way:
Your first paragraph sets the tone for grandparenting - "she filled a hole I did not know I had . . ."
Just hours later, I had a call from Jess - (the "a" is missing)
I saw a little girl with a personality a lot a like mine - take that third "a" out
To make the problems go way - I think you want "away"
