I am glad you are finally on the mend Jesse and your write here is positive and uplifing. It is only when we go through a trauma like this that we appreciate the simple pleasure of walking and breathing in the fresh air. I love the idea of the leaf essentially dying peacefully in its sleep. It's a very soothing image. And the contrast you make between yourself and the dying leaf is very reassuring. You have such a positive and optimistic attitude.
I was particularly taken with the lines:
Happiness is found
Where you expect it to be
Home where there is love
They're so beautiful, and so true!
Good luck with your recovery. I know you'll be walking without assistance in as short a time as is humanly possible.
