This has been a very helpful series. I hope you will continue to share with us your great knowledge of writing. I still think you should teach a class on FS. You'd have a big response, I know.

Thanks, man, you have been so helpful! I wish I had a sixer to give you but I have used them up this week already. You have taught me a lot about show, don't tell and I am grateful!
The above examples you used work well with any settings I can imagine. I will try them out as soon as I can.
You are a wonderful writer and deserve accolades for this.
Enjoy your weekend,
Jesse

Many thanks, Jesse. I wish more folk would take the time to create posts like this.
When I joined a lot of folk helped me on my way.
All the best G

And many thanks to you for writing this series. You're the one who is appreciated. I didn't find the series particularly brief, but I would have liked more explanations - you make it all seem so easy when you write, I could happily have read your explanations for hours. Kate xx

It's all just practice.
One of the problems with the site is that folk are in such a rush to post things, especially if they're 'playing the game'. Most of it isn't ready which is a shame when some of it could be so awesome but it's been rushed. G

After having read your 'show don't tell' segments, I have been searching for words to describe a 'drum roll on a tabletop' without writing it. I haven't figured out the correct words, yet, but have plenty of time. LOL
The net example displays the use of onomatopoeias. (next??)

finger drummed on the table is the quickest way, I would suggest. drummed most folk would recognise. G

I've been wondering. In your experience, does imagery get better as you proceed in experience G? I've found it was always there, but the ability to sew it together gets better, I think one has to be born with it, from experience. Thank you for this series, it probably makes one notice what one does. I found Tolkien, highly vivid in his writing, well done, blessings Roy

I think you're spot on with your observations about imagery. i see things in my head, but used to struggle with getting it down on the page. We write long-winded, use lots of adjectives and adverbs at first but then as experience takes over, you strip it back with robust descriptors (usually just one) or better verb.
You always need the needle and thread, but the arts in the stitch.

Good job

This was an inclusive final burst of creative writing, showing the author's many abilities to form the picture, or help the reader employ all senses needed to get the ambiance of a scene.

This was a fabulous one to end on, Gareth, and very useful, too. I've learned a lot from these and will continue to refer to them as I write. Hopefully, I'll get a lot better. Knowledge is something that stays with us, and your lessons have been excellent. This will go in my Gareth File, for future references. Thank you, and very well done!! :)) Sandra xxx
