Do Not Look Back
A short essay about the danger of looking back23 total reviews

Well written. Good support.
Great philosophy.
There's a ton of discussion/conversation regarding memories (and a million songs), but the admonition you charge is as you said at the start looking back at badness with fondness.
Best wishes.

Hmm, there is much wisdom in that story. And one can see, not just from the great examples you've provided the hazards of looking back. But there are also, benefits. There is much we can learn from looking back at not only our failures and mistake, but also those of others.
I think Lot's wide looked back with longing for what he lost. She did not want to leave and was not ready, if ever to. Her husband made her. She looked back because unlike like Lot, she had not truly escaped her past. Her heart was still there. So she died with the others.
A very thought provoking piece. Well done!

Your assessment was spot on. Leaving the past behind us requires letting it go. If we hold on tightly, we will never really leave it.

It is very good advice to keep forging ahead and forget about the past. Leave all of that behind you. Not all... because we have beautiful memories of those people we loved and things we enjoyed that were God given; like a moonlit summer night. LOL I had no trouble giving up smoking I quit, that was it. I remembered all the negative things that came along with that nasty habit. LOL Well done, nomi. Nancy:)

I did not intend to advocate leaving precious memories behind you. What I was trying to say was do not allow yourself to become imprisoned by memories that can be damaging.

YES, understand that. :)

A little Motown is always good. I had to pull up 'Don't Look Back'. I loved that song. I know I just ages myself, and you thought I was a spring chicken. LOL Your post shows your wisdom. It's good to learn from out past but keeping God's given wisdom in mine don't fall for the pasts traps like Sara did. Thank you for sharing this post with us.

Thank you for your kind comments. I do not just want to write things that are pleasing, I also want to write some thins that are instructive and thought provoking.

I thought this was brilliantly written. First, by the fate of Lot's wife looking back and then giving examples in drinking, gambling, and smoking where one remembers the pleasures but not the bad effects of the vices.
A thoughtful and powerfully written essay.
Best wishes

Thank you. This is a reflection of past experiences as well as thoughts on a universal problem.

You've sure pointed out the error of so many of our ways. I have to admit that much of my life I was "The Stupid One." Looking back, thinking if only I had done one thing differently, there might have been a better result. But with age, and collection of negative experiences, even us stupid ones can finally learn. LOL. Thank you for sharing, my friend. It's always a pleasure to read your wit and intelligence.

Thank you my friend. Your kind words are like a healing tonic to a man growing increasingly old and feeble.

Wise advise... Well written and supported with biblical passages. My grand mom used to say: "Don't look back, you're not going that way!"
Smile.
Her point was well taken!

I enjoyed your thoughtful essay. It is well written and leaves a strong message that I hope all of your readers will receive. I love that you quoted the song by the Temptations in the author's notes.

This is an important piece on the importance of resolve and commitment after making a change for the better. Rising and moving forward is always harder than falling back.

Falling back is a failure. If you are able to extricate yourself from the dung heap, why in the world would you allow yourself yo go back there?

You presented your information well. I enjoyed reading it. I like the way you started to give readers a bit of info. Then you gave some specific real world examples that many may identify with in their own lives (unfortunately). Yes with faith, there is always something to look forward to.
Thanks for sharing.
Respectfully, Jan
