Well, okay. This is an incredibly interesting post. Again, I have no clue how anybody could come up with this but I can see you did. LOL Tarot cards have always fascinated me, but I don't really know much about them. Thank you for peaking my interest again.

You've run the gamut on all I've written here, Barbara. As soon as I get a few more shekels, I'll post part two of The Executioner. As far as this one goes, it was kinda fun reminiscing. Glad you liked it.

Dear Jay, this narrative is a most unusual offering. And even though you ramble about a bit and go from one subject to another, everything is so well written that it is easy to follow.
So even though I am not particularly interested in either testicles or Taro cards, I can say, that you are a very good writer.

Ah, how the kid loves to ramble. Thank you for reading though the subject matter didn't interest you. That you finished says something. Thanks also for the compliment. I can't hear that kind of thing too much!

I always wait a few days before reading your postings, Jay. I need to set aside any competitive goals on this site and take in the unhurried release of observed life, filtered through your world view, and presented with your learned and logophilic panache.

This story of Clarence Felter should help all readers recall those one or two characters in their lives who are more likely misunderstood and avoided than observed. The people who cannot be captured with a flat description, but who require a lifetime to understand and present to others.

Always enjoy your wit and wisdom.

And I ... enjoy hearing about it. Thank you, Bill. Wait as long as you need to come up with such encouraging praise. Oh, yeah, you can say that about Clarence Felter. I'll have to tell you about my mother's introduction to the man, but I'll reserve that for a future story. Thanks again.

Hi Jay,

This was entertaining. I liken your reasoning here to that of a religious teacher I once had. he claimed that the scriptural texts contained all knowledge and that religious men were needed to bring that knowledge and learning to each individual on a certain time and place. Hmm...

Or, you know, just trying to justify their own existence!

The meaning comes from in here (Clarence touching head) and here (Clarence touching heart.) - I think the full stop / period needs to be outside the second set of brackets here otherwise the sentence is left open, I think.

All the best
G

Jesus, you did it again ... well, your friend Gareth did it again. Thank you for that catch, Gareth. It makes a big difference!

Love your theory about the mystery of this ancient art the Tarot"The meaning comes from in here (Clarence touching head) and here (Clarence touching heart.) It will come in layers like the layers of an onion. Only you will understand when you uncover a layer of truth that is relative to you. The deeper into the layers you go, the more universal is that card's relevance" interesting story that makes me think about how many times we pass people on the street that look different. Do we stop to think...

I love it, Iza, when someone takes something away from what I write that's more than just entertainment value. Thank you.

Hi, Jay,

I read through this reflective biographical non-fiction. A bit of Clarence Felter marks a groove in minds exposed, beyond the groove marked in you. Post reading, the sense I got is that he was a unique person, well thought of, and found myself reading through with a smile, enjoying the stroll.

The tarots are a starting promise that get outshined by Clarence and bits of images of him, presented in a chat by the chair-side sort of tone.

where you were sitting when you viewed it.
(Strong start to this story. Really like the sense of a shack leaning, an older loner and his dog.)

cut her into manageable packages and stuffed her in his freezer.
(Mystery lends to the imagination. Especially when someone has quirks and isolates.)

No one {never} (double negative?) mentioned it, at least in my hearing;
(meaning everyone always mentioned it?)

I know. That sounds dramatic. But true none-the-less. (nonetheless)? An

Clarence and some of his wards.
(Nice job securing the sense of a sage in the woods, like climbing the mountain to an oracle ... except instead of a climb it was more of a bramble par-core.)

Observing our feelings of impropriety.
(That's one way to gauge those willing to roll with the flow, take things too seriously. I'd be more like to share icecream with a dog than other humans.)

But I'll tell you why it's relevant to bringing his testicles into the picture.
(A memorable bit of description that is awkward and relatable. Life deals us the testicular fortitude that we get.)

creative-spiritual centers of the brain.
(hmm. That explains why I can't finish anything. I don't have enough sperm reabsorption; my creative center is just out of the juice)

Clarence may test you with a spoonful of vanilla ice cream. Look for stray
(I like how you leave Clarence a bit like the spiritual-creative guru in the woods. Still there all this time, him... his dogs... his danglies... and a crap ton of creative-spiritual ju-ju. Who would be welcoming of our visit to the little meet and greet created through this piece.)

I enjoyed reading this.

OMG, you caught me in a double-negative. I use them a lot for humorous intention, but I think you know I know the difference. Thank you for the embarrassing catch. No one else noticed it. Or worse, they did but thought it might hurt my feelings to tell me.

    "Observing our feelings of impropriety.
(That's one way to gauge those willing to roll with the flow, take things too seriously. I'd be more like to share icecream with a dog than other humans.)" ... There is a story here. I would have added it, but it would have made the story even longer. It was this, in a nutshell. My parents came to Austen to visit me. I was so proud of Clarence that I wanted to share him with them. They reluctantly maneuvered the brambles to get to his shack. We were all sitting there in his front yard. He was very pointedly telling my folks how proud they should be of me, that I was his best pupil.

Then he brought out the ice cream and the solitary spoon. He proceeded to take a bite, offer the dog a bite and then fill the spoon and hold it under my Mom's nose. She backed away and said her no-thankyous, but I know she was holding back gagging. I noticed Clarence was having a high time watching them very closely. (My Dad, by the way, was a seasoned cop, very law-and-order.)

On the way out, Mom said to me, "Did you notice that poor man, his--you know." She couldn't bear to say balls or testicles. "What could you possibly learn from being his pupil? I hope you didn't take any of his ice cream!" I knew right away, they were beyond understanding.

Turtle, I'm so glad you enjoyed reading this. I'm glad you got something out of it.

    Jay

Hello Jay Squires,
'Well begun is half done!' Three lines in the starting are very catchy, and working as a HOOK.
Nice piece of Biographical Non-Fiction having impressive phraseology with lovely imagery at several places and captivating flow throughout from the beginning to the end.
Description of Persons and Places is particularly noteworthy.
Interesting Indeed!

Isn't amazing the characters you meet on the streetcorner. The carzy thing is, there's some truth in every thing they say. What a wonderfully written memory. Best of luck with your writing!

Have a great day and God bless.
