Fun realistic look and the variation one can find in beaus. The confession of emotion at the start is helpful for understanding the reason for the poem. The turn at the last two lines of an invented hero makes for a complete view. Good use of rhyme and space.

Glad you enjoyed it! I had fun inventing all those 21 likely lads. Lucky it was invention or my reputation would be shot.
-
lol, luckily we don't have to live up to all of our poems.
-
Thank heavens for that!!!
Sometimes reviewers think that everything is the gospel truth of the writer's own life though.

LisaMay, you had me smiling, which turned to a chuckle and outright loud laughter in some parts. You are hilarious... And these fellas, oh my!
The rhyming is off the wall and the flow impeccable.
Awesome!

Thanks so much for reviewing Sandra. Unfortunately the world has too many guys we gals can find something to mock them for!

Absolutely!

Hello LisaMay :)
I really enjoyed this poem.
Loved the puns with the names (I especially liked Herb the Botanist!) and I also like that you alliterated some of the names - always good for a fun read!
I enjoyed the Tom, Dick and Harry bit and Tim the Tailor tickled me too!
Nice concluding couplet at the end - finished it off in tongue-in-cheek style :)
A fun and entertaining read :)
Best wishes, Debra

Great review! Thanks very much Debra. There's a lot of guys out there who just set themselves up to be mocked.

Lol. Enjoyed all your humorous wordplay in this rhyming couplets. It is so hard and I am just at a loss to explain how my single gal friends are still single because they are, like you, amazing, lovely ladies. But you've given me some good reasons in this poem and I wouldn't want any one of them for my friends, well, except for the chef. He sounds good.

Yes that chef could cook up some yummy food.
Where love strikes or misses is so perplexing.
Thanks so much for reviewing, glad you enjoyed it.

What a kick this was reading! If this were all true, I think I'd give up as the narrator does here and just stay at home and read a good romance novel. I love your sense of humor here as you describe all these guys.
Thanks for giving me a chuckle today. There were so many examples I loved here, too many to point out just one.

Yay, a 6star review! I am so pleased you enjoyed this enough to justify the high rating. Thank you for reviewing.
Yes, poor girl, she's not had much luck.
Comment from dragonpoet
It seemed that either the speaker is not taking her time to find out the pasts of these guys before she dates them. It seems the has had as many guys as these guys have had girls. The only truly right choice was leaving the abuser. Otherwise I think both sides are suffering from commitment issues.

Thanks so much for reviewing and for your comments.
Yes indeed, the poem does show up the modern curses of lack of research and fear of commitment, jumping from one thing to another. Abuse is not to be tolerated in any form.
-
You're very welcome. Internet dating and speed dating are two such curses.
Enjoy your week.

Oh this is so funny but oft times, too true. Such wonderful rhyme and meter, making it flow like silk. Loved the verse addressing the abuser who didn't survive...my second daughter moved through this same list before finding true love at 42...we began to think of her as Snow White and the 17 dwarfs... I even wrote her a poem about creating her own huge Ken doll from a manikin...life without humor...who could care it?

Thanks so much for your brilliant response to my silly poem. I really appreciate your generous review.
I am glad your daughter found happiness.... your humor will have helped her in the lonely times. I bet that poem about the huge Ken doll was funny.
My marriage ended when I was 40; my knight in shining armour will be somewhat creaky by now. But then again, I had an aunt who married for the 2nd time at 73. I live in hope!

All very true, I have a friend widowed at 70 and and re
married at 75. Madly in love with new p
rince who is 73...funny think, they went to school together and never gave each other a notice...life has so many strange turns.

So glad you enjoyed my humour enough to reward with a lovely 6 stars. Thank you for reviewing.
I think my knight in shining armour is a bit rusted up now and can't get on his horse to look for me.

From Oliver with a twist,to regal Rex and at all ports in between, this one is chock full of clever. I'm sure that, of the men on the list, Gordon must have been the most heartbroken for he lost, not just a girlfriend, but a caddie - now THAT'S a tragedy.
This is really well-written and witty. Like you, I too am a treasure undiscovered by someone who deserves me - unfortunately I am married to someone who probably doesn't deserve me, so I guess I'' just have to go on being underappreciated.

I had fun making up all these terrible men; I am pleased that other people are enjoying the results.
Underappreciated people usually find satisfaction elsewhere, in other areas of endeavour where they can be appreciated by like-minded people.
So you are a golfer, I gather. (a good walk spoiled... Mark Twain (?) I am working on a story at the moment with mention of golfing in it. The first time I tried golfing I hit a sheep (a very NZ hazard). And yes, it was on the fairway, not in some distant paddock in the rough.

That is some list of laddies this lassie has known. I like how you are able to describe each in a couplet. I think her solution--composing one in a Romance novel--is the way to go. Amusing and a delight to read. Rod

Thanks very much for reviewing this Rod.
Perhaps the man for her has not been invented yet, or else she's too busy poking fun at the others to notice if he has.

I like the premise of this young woman, disillusioned in real life, turning to writing fiction to find the perfect man. This seems like a great story-line for a TV sit-com. Have you ever written a screen-play? Hollywood needs you! Rod
