Thank you Alf. That glowing green plus-sign made my morning. I do hope to get this book up and running, but I suppose I must include all of the alphabet. - Wendy

Another fun and creative name for your F chapter. I love this one, and I'm sure a lot of us (not only the kids) can relate to Fanny and her fear of the creepy crawlies. I don't know what Cardinals are but I do know the cicadas, noisy creatures.
cheers,
valda

I am definitely not fond of spiders and scorpions. Everything else I don't mind. Except when I step on a bee, of course - Wendy

This is a cute poem Wendy. I am almost that bad. Mosquitos see me and have a good time when I go on the porch. I told my kids to get me some OFF but they haven't yet. I hear there is a new plastic disk you can wear like a pen to fend off biting insects. Good Job on this. Nancy

Thanks for the viewing Nancy. I am OK with everything but spiders and scorpions. Bugs don't like my blood so perhaps that is why I am a bit more tolerant. I did have a friend that would get hysterical whenever a bug was near. Fanny is my tribute to her and the guest who almost fell off the porch because she saw a tiny garden spider a few feet away. Who know that the phobic reaction could be more dangerous than the thing they are actually afraid of? - Wendy

Thanks Sandra. I am a bit funky about spiders and scorpions and ticks. Anything else I can handle. - Wendy

This is a delightful children's poem, Wendy. Many children will relate very well to this, as most are afraid of "creepy crawly things" too. You have created great imagery for your reader. I laughed at "(I hear she's popped her water wings)". I can picture a child giggling at this. It's my favorite part of the poem. "In summer she begins to shake each time Cicadas start to sing" ... love the imagery you created here.
Well written with excellent rhyming, your poem lets a child know that they are not the only one who doesn't like spiders and things. Luv it!
Small typo ... second last stanza, first line, "checks the the house for cracks." - - Connie

Thanks for the catch Barb. For some reason the spell check didn't work when I changed that and another oops I found. I saw the other immediately but didn't realize the the had slipped through too. Poor Fanny, I had this picture of her reaching into her garage with a huge pin to destroy the wings. I'm glad it made you smile. - Wendy

Hi Wendy:
If the spiders on my lawn were that big I'd hide in the house, too! All of your rhymes in the same style caught my attention with this piece. It will be a fun addition to your book, though, depending on the child's age, they might not know what a cicada is; another word for the glossary.

Thanks for another fine review Kim. I do try to mix up the rhyme schemes, more for my own sanity than as a particular kid thing. I agree Cicada needs an but of explaining doesn't it? - Wendy

Hahaha...poor Fannie Farffel. She would've hated me as a kid, LOL.
When I was just a year or so old and just getting my land legs beneath me (centuries ago!), cloth diapers were the only thing available at the time.
I have been told by a few of my relatives, along with my dad (and especially by my poor mother who I traumatized with the incident) that I would pick up centipedes, grasshoppers, spiders, bees--even frogs and lizards, and anything else that crawled or slithered on the ground--and stuff them in my diaper.
The first time I did this and my mother went to change me, my dad said mom about had a massive heart attack! Mom is terrified of ALL bugs, just like Fanny Farffel in your poem.
Yeah, apparently I was weird even as a baby.
Go figure...
I was reminded of this as I read your wonderfully well rhymed children's poem.
Funny and fun...
~Dean :)

Some things never change, right Dean. Thanks for the story, it gave me a much needed smile before the hordes descended for breakfast. I appreciate your kind words. - Wendy

It's always my pleasure, Wendy. You're more than welcome. :)

Obvious, like Fanny Farffel, we have chances of feeling afraid of every creepy crawling thing, here and there and everywhere, over and above, if there is Cicadas, a nice rhyme.

Cute kids' poem. I can relate... I hate creepy crawly bugs and spiders too. The picture is fabulous. WHere did you find it?
We had 17-year cicadas here twice since we've lived here... shows how old I'm getting. :)

The artist owns the other B & B here in Roanoke. She is learning to be an illustrator and that is a hard shift for her to make. It is akin to the concert pianist and the accompanist. Both may be equally taught and capable, but the accompanist must follow the singer, not her own heart. All the artwork on the chapters posted is hers, but we are refining and adjusting . . .as I am with the poems. Thanks for the R & R. - Wendy
