Carolyn; "Roofs of neighborhood houses wrapped of comforters of frozen fluff(alliteration), Like feather beds of luxury Great being neatly on gables and peaks". First of all your imagination is remarkably inventive and ingeniously creative and secondly the imagery that you make perceivable to the reader is ingeniously descriptive as well as expertly expressive and not only in these lines but throughout your writing. An enjoyable read and very colorful and picturesque. Good luck in the contest and thank you for sharing and posting and may the good Lord be with you always Carolyn. :-)

That was an amazing free verse poem. I am not a big admirer of free verse, but this one, although unrhymed, had such a lyrical sound to it. Your descriptions gave a wonderful picture of the snow, each line was a gift to us readers. Good luck in the contest, this one really is amazing! :) Sandra

G'day Carolyn. This is a very well written and presented piece as is all of your work. The subject matter I can't comment on as I have never seen snow. I am interested in the way you describe silence with no birds flying, is that what happens? Cheers Fez

Hi there,
It is hard to imagine not having snow now and then. Yes, it is very quiet.. like a blanket.. BTW.. I took that photo out my front window. I think we had about 7 or 8 inches at the time. (Then once the snow-plow comes through and cars get moving, it gets sloppy and nasty as it starts to melt.) I hope you get to experience it someday. Do you like 'shaved ice' dump some on your head, its like that... LOL .

Hahahaha! Don't tell my 6yo daughter to dump it on my head or I might freeze to death. I lived most of my life in the area know as the Pilbara in Western Australia, one of the hottest places in the world. Apart from that I have always llived in the tropics. I would love to take Delia (my wife) and Champers (our 6yo daughter) to see it one day. Cheers Fez

Your poem comments about the beauty and stillness of an early winter morning before all of the hustle and bustle of school and work. Sometimes we overlook this wonderful beauty and huff and complain about its coldness and cruelness to our comforts. You poem reminds us to just to look and enjoy.

The use of asterisks made me think of snowflakes. Is that your intention? You captured the beauty of snow blanketed country before being marred by human movement.
