Hi again, I guess I said most everything in the message I sent, but I do appreciate your taking time away from your own words to read and review mine. Love those Dryads!
Comment from Sally Carter
Wendy, this is a remarkable poem, and the only reason for the 5 is that all my 6s have been used up. Here's what it deserves:
******
It seems pointless me restating all the clever and beautiful things you have done here; you wrote it, for goodness's sake!
What most impresses me is the way you have chosen words so carefully that they often make sentences in all directions, rather than simply being a list of descriptions. Little words at the end of phrases, such as "of", and "while", and the comma in the line "warming, they wiggle", make such a difference.
Interesting, the effective way you use a semi colon in the last column.
Of course, wonderful alliteration, especially in the line mentioned above - warming/wiggle.
And on top of that, the imagery is quite beautiful, even if there were no picture to look at.
Thank you, Wendy, for the pleasure of reading this poem and for helping me realise that a double cleve (must get the spelling right) CAN be more than just a clever juggling with words. I might even, one day, try another...
My very best wishes to you.
Sally

And back at you Sally. Your review is so thorough and it is wonderful to see specifics attached, rather than just a banal, happy face review. As to the connecting words, yes, they do work magic for the cleve. I am not a staccato writer by any means. If I can squeeze another word into a sentence, and think I can get away with it, I will add two. The cleve doesn't allow for a lot of that, but some can be tasty and ease the movement from line to line. I hesitated to move everyone in that direction as I thought it had more to do with personal style than form. I have since come to think that it is a necessity in order to achieve the right flow. I am learning during this reviewing process too. I think next time I rule the world, I will feel more comfortable in suggesting, tugging, pulling or dragging you guys in a specific direction. This time I was a bit of a wuss. - Wendy

Thank you for taking the time to read and review my words. I enjoy the form as it gives me a chance to write poetry and work a puzzle at the same time. Thank you also for the recommendation.- Wendy

oh I have missed you Wendy! such a clever write (I've never attempted one of these) - we have a famous Aussie painter (whose name totally escapes me) who was rather naughty but specialized in painting nymphs - lots of them hanging in the Sydney Art Gallery (which I love to visit whenever I get to Sydneyk which isn't often these days) ... your poem reminds me of his light, lovely, airy creations ...
a landscape become(becomes?) body
lovely to read you again!

Hello Sharyn, It is nice to feel like writing again. I think I just had too many 18 hour days and too much business stress. I just couldn't face writing or reviewing or quite some time ( I think most should be glad that I didn't try and rate them when I was in such a grand funk.) I am working my way back and hope to get back into a steady schedule of writing and reading my favorite authors (you are definitely included in that bunch) - Wendy

Thank you Melissa, I'm glad you did too. Perhaps we should talk them into adding a cleve challenge to the NY Times Sunday Puzzle page! - Wendy

Expectionally different. Amusing muse has given way to the fairy inside you. I love the picture and the dancing and embracing words. Great poem. Many blessings.

Thank you for taking the time to read and review my work. Actually, it is five poems in one. Each column is a complete poem. You can also stack the columns, in order, and read it that way. Finally, read it horizontally, jumping from column to column as you read each row. I am really glad that you liked it. - Wendy

I wish I had a six left to give you for this one. IT looks like a difficult poetry format and it is exceptionally well-written. Great use of assonance and imagery!

Hi Wendy, This is definitely one of the best double cleaves I've read. I know how difficult these are to write and you have done a masterful job of laying this out so that it makes some sense and does so as smoothly as possible. What I notice most is the wonderful alliteration throughout! You are very talented!
All the best,
Rodger
