The fact you could have had the bit of 'me' time, but you chose to help out at the school, shows what a caring person you are. It's wonderful that Jonathan was in a school that taught him, not just had him sit there doing nothing. It all seems to be coming together. Your children are awesome, having Jonathan in the family has done more good than bad for them. They have developed amazing strengths of character, that can only give them much happiness in their adult lives. Another amazing chapter!! :) Sandra xx

Yes, many times the "schools' assume they can't learn anything, but they can and do, and I wanted him to learn and experience as much as he could. Many thanks for your insightful and encouraging review.

I've learned so much from reading your work and your experience with Jonathan. I appreciate the education and a further look into the world of those less able than others to manage what is considered daily living. ann

Thank you for sharing how you and your family have been making such a great difference! I love how your children stood up for others, like Joe asking his teacher to show respect with his language and for Anna standing up for her teacher. Your kids have strong moral character and that's a beautiful thing! What a great thing that you were offered a job at Jonathon's school!

I think Annie's story deserves a separate post. Her actions border on heroic. Again, this gives a clear picture of your strength and Jonathan's pleasant personality.

Thank you very much for this lovely review, and for the beautifl six stars. I didn't want to make too much of it, because it's mainly Jonathan's story.

Both of your children showed a great deal of maturity in those examples.
I know that made you proud, as it would me.
I also love the fact that they embraced Jonathan as their brother.
I know this is action chapter for more devastating events as you've replied to me. So I'm not letting myself feel comfortable, yet.
To say I'm looking forward to your posts is not the correct phrasing, but your story has me totally immersed into your life with raising Jonathan.

My grandson who is autistic, but high-functioning, just graduated from a special needs school and learning in such an accepting, loving environment provided him with everything he needs to navigate life. He is twenty-one now and just began community college. All this to say, I understand how important the school environment is in providing education and "community" for these youngsters. And how proud you must be of your other children who are learning how to navigate our world as caring advocates for the less abled individuals in our midst.

I find joy here, hiding amid the challenges!
Your love and acceptance of Jonathan slowly coaxed the boy who bit his arm to this caring, impish boy with a hose that "happened" to skip toward teachers and family!
You showed (not told) your children that Jonathan was a beautiful soul within a disabled body...and like you, they did not advocate out of any place but love-for less than that, cripples his heart and lets an insensitive, often uncaring world off the hook!
God's GPS:

Has you running right on time!
(Fifty days...this is Wendy!)
You give me hope!

I know it wasn't the point of the story, but the situation with the teacher makes me angry. No matter what the provocation, he lacked self-control (a part of his job) and I'm glad he was dismissed. I'm sorry the school didn't seem to do anything about the bullying though. You'd like to think that would be different nowadays, but possibly not.

Thank you Sarah for your insightful review and thoughts. I know schools these days are trying o stamp it out, but it still happens. There's a lot more awareness.

I enjoyed your chapter here very much, especially like the fact that you had instructed your children in such a way that they were willing to stand up for what was right and that meant a lot to me as I was reading it. When I was growing up. I tried my very best to do what was right and I failed so many times because I did not have a family who would encourage me. May you continue to write this story and I am sure that I will continue to be blessed by every word. Thank you so much for sharing with us. Patricia.

You raised amazing children. Not many young people are brave and confident enough to stand up again the others in order to do the right thing but in spite of what the others do, I think they have to admire those who do. I am also amazed that Jonathan seemed to learning and enjoying being around others.
