Absolute
I was so young
perhaps a dandelion
though it is slight--
it falls to pieces
and goes …
somewhere,
it intrigues
a daisy then,
mistreated
petals dipped
in inkwells
we are young
and fickle
indecisive without
conviction
a rose--
screaming red
dripping with dew
upon my tongue
yes
yes
and another
still one more
over there
redder still
all the while I notice the sky …
it remains always
some shade of blue
sometimes filled with clouds--
they play
they teach
they seem to reach
for somewhere
I wish to also go,
and color seems to matter in the sky
…but light leaves
taking the color casually away
I take all of this with me
to sea,
for it is blue
I seek,
for once I embraced
her
on a sandy beach,
the sky and sea conversed
out there
and the whispers reached me
but just echoes
of a promise
I’m adrift now
no land in view
dandelions remembered
daisies too
a single rose alone
a black silhouette
clouds have parted ways
as light probes
seeking exactly
the right hue
finally … finally
I find
the color
I once shared
the deepest
darkest
perfect
blue
