HOrror writing prompt entry

Crash! Glass breaking in the bathroom.

He runs to check, sliding on the throw rug, smashing face first into the wall. He enters the bathroom lit by a Tinkerbelle nightlight. The mirror- shattered. A shadow runs from the landing into the house.

He spins… he sees… nothing.

"Shut up down there. We're trying to sleep. Idiot!"

Don't respond… enemy… could be in on it… murder for hire… be ready.

He clutches a long bloody shard of mirror. Advantage me, bastard. He opens the door to his daughter's bedroom. Still sleeping… good… safe. He turns the lock.

Scream from the bedroom. My wife! Run! A shadow slips down the stairs. Door… kicked in… room thrown about… grandfather clock face down. Wife… thank God! In bed… she's okay.

He tiptoes down the stairs. The dog yelps… whimpers… silence. He peers into the kitchen. Moonlight pours in.

Shadows… everywhere.

The dog's sleeping… good dog.

Front door crashes open. Police responding to 911 call.

Fear grips him. What if I'm not alone? I could still be killed.

He shouts, "Hurry! I think he's still in here!"

The cops rush in and wrestle him to the ground.

"We're clear. Murder suspect in custody."
