Author Notes
Team New Zealand is poised to wrest the America's Cup back from the USA when racing resumes on San Francisco Bay tomorrow morning (Thursday kiwi time). The score is currently 7-1 in the best of 17 series - would have been 7-3 except Oracle USA were docked 2 points for cheating in the lead up races)
So we need to win 2 more races to bring the cup (The Auld Mug) back home to NZ
Go Kiwis!
I wonder how many years we need to hold this thing before we can officially change its name to New Zealand's Cup.
Sorry to non-sports fans - this trophy, supposedly the oldest continuously contested trophy in all sport, is for yachting. The specially designed multi-million dollar yachts for this series have foils which lift the hulls out of the water, enabling the boats to reach speeds up to about 60 mph.
I estimate about half of NZ's population will be watching live TV coverage tomorrow (it is a working day, after all),
