Guidelines were there but so was freedom.
Foot Loose and Fancy Free

Barefoot and fancy free
At home on the ground or high in a tree
Swimming in dams and making mud pies
And sometimes the telling of little white lies
With friends of mine as carefree as I
We plucked the fruit for mulberry pie
The leaves we used as food for our worms
To spin the silk we took it in turns.
School was a must but we weren't fussed
Our teachers all did earn our trust
We learned our tables one to twelve
And were taught in books to delve.

Author Notes
We actually had a silkworm club and very crudely spun silk from the cocoons.
