A lone wolf sits away from the pack,
Sniffing the air as he senses the track
Of a predator who stalks them, he knows it is man,
And he'll kill his whole family, if he can.
He lifts his head and howls at the moon,
Remembering a time that ended all too soon.
When his kind was revered by his native friends,
Each teaching the other valuable life lessons.
Both were mighty hunters, killing only to feed,
Ensuring their survival, never out of greed.
Defending family and territory for which they would die,
Each brought to the brink of extinction by the white man's lie.
A lone wolf gathers up his family,
Moving on again, to escape, to be free.
