An Ordinary Life by jlsavell

In the dawn of my ordinary life
where the sun rises to birth my run,
and the chorus of trilling birds startled my ears,
while the morning brew of coffee
wafts through my senses,
evoking me to crave my addiction;
the door bell rings of mail and friends,
I had not seen that my ordinary
is my extraordinary
in an ordinary life

In the clamor midday of my ordinary life,
where the sun's warmth touches my face
and the breeze brushes past and through my hair,
my astute sight views a cardinal in vested splendor
My hearing becomes acute
as a school bus loads its precious cargo
Busy little people chattering;
reminding me that I once had busy little people
who had places to go and others to see
Something quite so ordinary,
Yet, I never thought that my ordinary
was extraordinary in an ordinary life

In the humid hot afternoon of my ordinary life,
where the still solitude evokes the comfort of memories,
calming a familiar restlessness of days gone by:
changing diapers, first steps,
then constant heavy metal, first proms,
puberty's arrival in the midst of my home,
frustrations speckled with unconditional love
Then true anxiety knocked at my door
riddled with fear as little sons took up arms
and flew into dangerous territory,
and little daughters sought degrees
then sealed a future of Cinderella dreams at the altar
Yes, not one thing out of the ordinary
of my extraordinary ordinary life

In the serenity of a magnificent sunset in my ordinary life,
 a new found freedom emerges,
where time is not of essence
and unpredictable predictability was not to be expected
Movies selected were not for impressionable minds
and decorum was put on a shelf
Dinner was anything, anything I craved
The toys in the corner were for short fun visits
by busy little people that brought me frogs
and painted my toes with electric orange
These little precocious people
giving me the gift of nonsensical laughter
My runs were longer and more sustained,
though my body was becoming traitor to my will
But still, I had not  realized that my quaint ordinary life
was more extraordinary than ordinary held

Now in the untroubled still twilight
of my rather ordinary life
I found I had possessed something,
something rather extraordinary
The ability to choose with utmost discernment,
without fear of loss or non- acceptance,
but through much experienced gained
in a rather ordinary life
I relished in sage wisdom and matured actuality
I was no longer reticent to be me
But the aftermath of my ordinary extraordinary life
left a void that I had no idea was void
For deep sensual love had not been granted to me as yet;
and then one day…
when my ordinary life was finding room for renovation,
I happened upon a most extraordinary man,
who had a most ordinary life
It was this unusually gifted and loving extraordinaire
that made me see that my quaint ordinary life
was more extraordinary than ordinary held
