Summer Days
Days of Summer by Pamusart

This land is so warm, it's wearing short sleeves,
as summer arrives and talks with the leaves.
Their hushed conversation sways in the breeze,
as late blooming blossoms feed busy bees.

The pattering sounds of hard summer rain,
and winds, at high speeds, now sound like a train.
Some leaves are dislodged and fall to the ground.
Their rustling becomes a soft cozy sound.

The winds have died down and utter a sigh.
A rainbow has formed in soft silver sky.
The clouds start to scurry slowly across.
The trees that shed leaves have suffered no loss.

The sparkling blue waters deep in a lake,
its surface reflecting one lonely drake.
He quacks as he searches for a new mate.
The hen he attracts determines his fate.

The rainbow is gone; there’s blush in the skies.
A pink-yellow sunset pleases the eyes.
It’s now gotten gray and vision is blurred.
The darkening night can plainly be heard.

The glorious moon is first to arrive.
Her moonbeams are bright and taking a dive.
The sounds of a loon can make the heart ache.
Their cries can be heard around the dark lake.

The crickets now chirp a boisterous song,
and, they won’t be still until morning dawn.
Not even the shadows come out to play,
but, beautiful flowers sleep until day.

Their petals sublime are wearing a gown,
while dew waits to start to wet the place down.
The soft summer gown now shimmers in light.
It’s made out of moonbeams lighting the night.

It’s time to start over; morning is here.
The bright summer meadow feeds a few deer.
Their favorite grass will soon disappear,
and, food will be scarce  ‘til sometime next year.

A new day has dawned, the trees come alive,
and, throughout the summer, beauty will thrive.
The first day of autumn brings a slight chill,
This summertime’s thoughts are already still.

Author Notes
Just musings about summer.

Oleander trees are one of the few trees that blossom in the summer. One is pictured here

Interesting fact. Worker bees huddle around the queen to keep her warm during winter.
