VERSE 1

summer skies are blue
why can't I be too
waitin' on the rain
that's overdue

strainin' for the view
everyone in queue
hidin' from the rain
is nothing new

CHORUS

no time to burn the clouds away
freeze the sun for one more day
breathe the dust out of the ground
feel the moon go round and round

VERSE 2

secrets no one knew
in eyes so green and blue
clear by day, the night
a witches' brew

blind on your debut
there's an empty pew
you're sleepin' at the wake
when we walk through

CHORUS

no time to burn the clouds away
freeze the sun for one more day
breathe the dust out of the ground
feel the moon go round and round

no one to burn the clouds away
freeze the sun for one more day
what's never lost will not be found
what's never dry cannot be drowned

dream the dead out of the ground
when the moon is round

NOTES FROM THE AUTHOR:
Song demo recording in progress -- I will send it along to those who review this when it becomes available -- it is much more powerful with the music. I just got back from a long road trip and only had time to submit the lyrics.

This song is about all the kids I grew up with who died in early adulthood from drug ODs, mainly from Chinese fentanyl. The drug epidemic claims 100,000 lives in the US every year -- that's more than all suicides and car accidents combined. Where I grew up, everyone across socioeconomic strata knows multiple people who died and families who have been destroyed by addiction. The title "Blue Sky" is a reference to the name of a methamphetamine product in the well-known TV series "Breaking Bad". The image above of the meth from the show is displayed with attribution.
