Mom's Surprising Confession
by Debi Pick Marquette
Back on that day when mom would call
She was so eager to tell all
I had to work, so tried to stall
But that's when she began to bawl
Went right away, I do recall
Her tears looked like a waterfall
Took kids to school, and hurried there
I calmed her down into her chair
I held her, listened, showed I care
I understood now her despair
She begged to keep him, so unfair
And every night, for him, a prayer
To help her then,I grabbed the phone
I wondered if he lived alone
And would he be just like a clone
Of brothers three, I'd always known
He lives in a dif'rent time zone
A happy heart or heart of stone?
So thankful it worked out that day
Not long after, mom passed away
Two brothers joined her, our dismay
Close to my new brother, I'll stay
And for each other we both pray
We're made in part of the same clay
Until that day I had no clue
Mom didn't tell, we never knew
Not one iota, it is true
Until the year of "92"
Some time together's overdue
Thankful you found us;I love you!

My mom was engaged to be married when she was in college. She had to give up her baby for adoption after he broke up with her when she told him. She suffered for years for making that decision. She told my father when they met, but never told us kids until that day when she was forced to tell, when she found out that he was looking for her. So she called me before I went to work. The rest is in this poem.
She didn't live long after that and only met Roger a couple times, but we have a close sibling relationship now. I am thankful that she got to meet him before God took her at such a young age. I do, actually we do still have one other awesome brother, Greg.
It just so happened that my husband and I were going to Vegas that weekend. So we rented a car and had it planned to meet him in a restaurant in Phoenix. It was amazing as all the people there watched to see the meeting. It was an Oprah moment for sure, and he spotted me right away since I look like my mom.
He was an only child and his parents had been so generous to tell all about her and even had a picture of her. Since then we have met many times until I started having trouble get around easy enough. We stay in touch by text and phone calls.
So hopefully someday again soon.
My mother loved butterflies and I always think of her when I see one. That is why I chose the art I did.
