Homecoming by Paul McFarland True Story Flash contest entry |
With the Star of David emblazoned on their clothes, Paul, his wife, and their young child, Anne were herded onto the railcar with many other families. There had been stories of these train rides which put fear into the hearts of Paul and his wife. “We will probably be going to some detention camp,” Paul said, trying to allay the fears of his wife. “The war will end someday, and then we can get on with our lives.” Anne, holding her doll and looking into her mother’s troubled face, said, “I can’t wait until we get into our new home.”
