Comfort Food
You smiled at her sweetly,
like you used to smile at me.
Perhaps I should have known then,
that you planned to set me free.
I followed you one evening,
just a few blocks down the street.
A doorway of a small cafe,
is where you two would meet.
The way that you would touch her,
made me scream inside my head.
The same way that you'd touch me,
later on when in our bed.
Did you think you could betray me,
and love us both so free?
I promise you that this is not
the way it's going to be!
I gave my heart and soul to you,
gave all that I could give.
You took my pride and self-respect,
and that I can't forgive.
I know the dish that you two share,
at the cafe down the street.
A lovely stew of vegetables,
a succulent savory treat.
Afterward, you make sweet love,
her place not far away.
Then you come back home to me,
no loving words to say.
I think the next time that you meet,
to have your tasty stew.
There'll be a little something extra,
added in for you.
A very special ingredient,
to make it more delectable.
Odorless and colorless,
and also undetectable.
Revenge is best served hot in stew,
I'm sure all would agree.
To satisfy my broken heart,
now dead inside of me.
So sad that what was strong and true,
our love was doomed to fail.
I wasn't good enough for you,
damn you and your betrayal!
Did I mention a new cook was hired,
at that small cafe?
The best food in the city,
I've heard the patrons say.
I've no doubt, he certainly is,
better than any other.
So glad he found this great new job,
my sweet and loyal brother.
