A well dressed stranger arrives in town, revenge his aim

His Cowboy Son

by bob cullen

The bow tie suggests respect but the truth's far from revealed
His eyes they tell a story, but his lips are tightly sealed
Arrived in town just yesterday with plans to leave tonight
He appears filled with anger, seems he's itching for a fight

Rumor running round the town says he is the preacher's son
Came to town to square the bill for what he believes was done
His daddy is a real fine man who preaches the word of God
Who practiced every word he said, with each step he trod

He built his congregation slow, prayed with them Sunday night
Till last week when some rednecks came and set the place alight
They claimed we don't need no God our town's really doing good
Set fire to the Church he'd built, then they bashed him where he stood.

The cowboy's eyes were fired with rage aimed at the growing crowd
His father's face was badly bruised, he spoke direct and proud
"Listen folks I understand, we may not see eye-to-eye
But I'll be back again next week to praise the Lord on high."

A spokesman for the townsfolk said, "We'd like to help rebuild."
The preacher just sat in silence, his faith in God fulfilled.
Tears blinded all his vision and he saw that he had won
Today he had gotten back his Church and his cowboy son
