McGuire's restaurant decor

A chapter in the book The Heart of Poetry

Just hangin' around

by Carolyn 'Deaton' Stephens

We went in the door
and much to our surprise
on every space but the floor
was the look of enterprise

Money on the ceiling
money in the halls
money on the rafters
and tacked on every wall

One million dollars and one half
swaying in the air
framing every picture
touch me if you dare

Each bill was signed and dated
and tacked with ceremony
barely a pin size between
held close like matrimony

And oh yes, the food was tasty
'Senate bean soup' the spe-ci-al-ity
it made you realize that's how
a million and a half became reality

Not necessarily a meter perfect piece, but fun to write. I took the picture in McGuire's Restaurant in Destin, Florida. It's Irish atmosphere was enhanced by 'sweet bonnie lasses' dressed in their folk dresses, serving with cheery smiles, and Irish jigs playing for entertainment.
